2003 P5: Looking for Gauge Rings

Pass the Cigars around:

Hello all. I'm happy to announce that I'm the pround new owner of a new black 2003 P5. I am still in shock. I went in to the dealership to discuss my lease options for my current 1999 Protege, and by the end of the day I handed back my 1999 for a new '03 P5. Either I was ready for the move or my Mazda rep was one smooth talker.

Anyway, I am super happy. This is one great car. This is my third Mazda, and if the money is there in a year, I'm buying a Miata to boot.

I do have some questions.

1. Does anybody on here know where I can get/buy Gauge Rings for my new P5? I saw some pics on this site a while back and they looked fantastic.

2. Also, what's the word on Mazda's 6 disk in-dash changer? I'm thinking about buying it but I want to know if anybody has one of these installed, and what they think of it? Any regrets? Does anybody know if there are any good aftermarket decks available that are approximately the same size as the factory deck?

3. I have seen a few of the members' pictures and their P5s have sleek looking roof racks that look similar to the racks on Mazda's Tribute. I asked my dealer about roof racks and an attempt was made to sell me some horrid-looking, chunky, non-aerodynamic, over-the-side-hanging Thule roof rack. Where can I buy a sleek looking roof rack like the other members and how much will the rack set me back? I want to transport my bike, and I am not interested in any rack that hangs off the tail/hatch or that mounts to the frame or bumper.

In advancem thanks for your help and information, and I look forward to posting and receiving messages Mazda and Protege enthusiasts.

I look forward to your replies,

For you hockey fans, the Toronto Maple Leafs will win the 2003/04 Cup. Key contributors: Doug Gilmour, Garry Roberts, Owen Nolan. The rest don't matter.

Daveb ( I think thats his id) sells the gauge rings.

Stereo sucks in the p5, I wouldn't put any money into factory stereo. Just get an aftermarket one, but your on a lease.

I'm not sure about the roof rack, the 2002 come with them stock, mabee try a different dealer.

Hey leafsboy,

You have a PM. Should tell you all you need to know. Thanks for the inquiry.

And as for the price, The rings, both the polished and brushed, are $30.00 per set + shipping.

Shipping cost within the States is $3.85 and in Canada it is $7.00.
Thus totals are $33.85 & $37.00. Both are in US dollars. I hope this clear things up.

Hey Dave,
Clean out your PM box! :) I'd like to buy some rings from you.

Thanks,
Nate

hello leafsboy and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

As for the 6disc changer, I have it...and love it. I personally do not agree with Noah about the stock equipment. It does need some help, but its not trash by any means. I personally upgraded all the door speakers, which are weak at best, and I added an AMP and a sub to the system....it rocks.

HOWEVER, if you don't already have the 6 disc changer.....once you go to your dealer and find out how EXPENSIVE it is to buy one from them.....I think you will agree that the money will be much better spent getting an aftermarket system. The changers are very expensive from a dealer.

Well, just looked on Mazda Stuff and it's 432.00 USD for the 6disc in dash cd changer. And that is basically like getting a head unit and a 6-disc cd changer seperately. My understanding is it's made by kenwood which isn't bad. Speakers need help and a amp helps too. I just ordered some 6.5 audiobahns for the back and 6x8 audiobahns for the from www.etronics.com has some good prices.

I have the changer and I like it a lot. Its not something I would have bought if the car didn't already have it, but I'm glad it was there. I also added an amp and replaced the speakers like Sir Nuke.

Sometimes members replace their HU and if they have the 6-disc changer they try and sell it in the for sale section. I haven't seen one lately but its an option if you don't mind waiting for one to go up for sale. It would also be a lot cheaper than a new one.
