2002 protege lx: how do i wire the rear doors for speakers?

hey everyone, this is my first post, though i have been a lurker for a while...

i just ran the wiring for my amp in my 2002 protege lx (stick) and i want to know how i can wire the rear doors for speakers.

i imagine the kenwood head i have would run the front and rear door speakers as front and rear outs and my 4 channel amp would handle the 6x9's and sub..

has anyone successfully run wiring through the plastic and rubber thingy that runs between the door panel and chassis?

thank you in advance!!

You may have trouble mounting speakers in the door if no stock speaker location is there. Partly for rattling issues and general strength of were you want the speaker. I'd suggest a sturdier location, but that's up to you.

If you have power windows, you can thread a new wire through the rubber boot. I don't know if you have door connectors on your car but even there you can thread wires through the unused pin locations.

I have extra wires threaded through the door connectors on my mazda 3 - no issues unless the door needs to be removed.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply!

there is a hole for 6.5" speakers in the door, just not wired.

the reason for this as i understand it is because as i have a protege sedan (with stock front door 6x8"s and 6x9"s on the rear deck) there is also the protege5, which is a hatchback. the protege5 does not have rear deck 6x9"s and has 6.5"s on the rear doors instead.

i think mazda uses the same rear door for both models so mine has a speaker hole but no speakers and no wiring through the molex...

and therein lies my problem. i need to find a way to detach the molex from the frame of the car so i can wire speakers without breaking it...

That makes sense for the door speakers. Though with 4 speakers behind you, that's probably where the sound stage will go in the car (sounding like sound is coming from behind you instead of in front as is 'good').

You shouldn't need to remove the connector, just put a wire through one of the unused pin holes. I was able to get a 20ga wire through mine - which is plenty for 6.5" speakers. get some hook-up wire single strands instead of speaker wire for this section, since hook-up wire should have a thinner insulation to get through that connector.
Or you can get to a junkyard and pull the connectors off - use the pins from that to add to your car. But i'd say break open a few holes in the connector if you need the room - they aren't being used, and unless you plan to add pins you'll have no need for the unused pin locations.
