2002 Protege 5 Headlights

Hey guys, I'm looking to install PIAA headlights in my 2002 Protege 5. The PIAA dealers say that there are no low beams available for the Protege 5. The highbeams are the 9005 series and the fog lights are teh H3 series. Now, there is a site (http://www.napzone.com/bulbsapp/mazda.htm) that says the Protege (not the P5) takes H4 bulb for low and high beams. My question is: "If the Protege 5 is completely based on the Protege, which is what I understand, can the P5 also take the H4 bulb?" Any expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jayce

I think that this reply will be correct (a search on the topic and maybe in the FAQ will lead to more information).

The P5 has a "unique" dual projector headlight assembly that uses individual bulbs for the high and low beams. The other Proteges use a single projector assembly with a dual-filament bulb. Hence, the information you found is correct.

JJB is correct, The standard protege uses a single bulb- dual filament, where as the p5 uses two seperate bulbs. The lows are H7s and the high beams are 9005

As far as I know PIAA doesn't make a H7 bulb ... anyone know of anyone that makes a H7 bulb in a "white light"?

Sylvania make the "Cool Blue" lights, there are other brands out there too

Does anyone know where I can buy PIAA H7 bulbs in Canada? I understand that they don't come with the regular PIAA warranty because they are only available to Japan and if they are in North America, its because they were shipped illegally. Anyone know if this is true?

Hi Jayce

I just checked and JBs Pwere Centre here in Edmonton normally carry the PIAA H7 (out of stock right now) for around $120. Are there any of those stores in Calgary? I have also seen a lot of these bulb sets in China town in Calgary at some of the car parts stores. You may want to check that out.

is that the price of per one bulb, or for a pair of them?

That's for a pair. I changed out my low beams for some brighter ones and I got them from a company called MTEC I think. Even then they were around $75 for the pair.
