2001 Prtoege Engine Swap

I have been planning this for some time now and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in doing engine swaps on a third gen protege. I have been considering a 1.8L Turbo from a JDM GT, 20B Tri-ROTOR, 97 RX7- 13B Twin Turbo, or doing a performance rebuild on my 1.6L by adding turbo and nos. I am also looking for any body kits and big brake kits as well.
Oh yeah does anyone know where I can find the AWD Rally transmission for this bad boy.

Put the 2.0L FS-ZE 170HP N/A. Why did you purchase a 1.6L if you want to swap the engine.

You should get a ES/GT or a MP5 and upgrade a liitle bit the engien to get to sames spec as the FS-ZE engine. That's what I will do.

The main reason behind my purcahse of the 1.6L was the price and availability compared to all the other mazdas around here. I figure 12,150 total for a new one was not a bad price considering they wanted 4,000 more for the 2.0 and it already had 1800 miles on it. Both of them had the same interior features and both the same gold sandlwood color. The only other options in a mazda was the P5 which was around 21,000 and the rest being miatas and tributes. Either way I figured on doing some work to it no matter how it came off the lot.

What about KL-ZE V6 200HP

What about KL-ZE V6 200HP

man i would love to see you drop that 3 rotor inn, it would be hella fast, but would cost mad money, but i guarentee you that your car would be one of a kind

I would also go with the FS-ZE.

Putting a rotary in a Protege will be extremely difficult because Mazda has never sold a FWD rotary car, anywhere, ever, so no off-the-shelf tranny and motor mounts can be used. You will have to do some serious custom fabrication, and you might run into oil starvation problems because the rotary was not designed to be transversely mounted (although I have seen one successful transverse rotary swap, into a Fiat X1/9).

The KL-ZE and BPT will also be difficult, although the BP will probably be easier. The F-series and Z-series engines in the G3 Pro have different dimensions than a BP, so you will need (at least) custom motor mounts and custom wiring just to get a BP into the car. The KL-ZE also has problems; the only reason a KL V-6 will fit into Protege at all is because an MX-3 V-6 front crossmember will bolt into a G1, but the G3 has a significantly different front suspension than the G1 or MX-3, so the crossmember may not fit. Also, a KL V-6 won't fit into a G2 because the engine bay is too small. You might run into this problem with the G3 also.

I would also give some consideration to the idea of swapping the entire car for a 1.8L or a 2.0L. Engine swaps are never cheap unless you are dealing with a car that's very cheap to buy and has abundant junkyard parts support (like an 87 Integra engine into an 85 Honda CRX). Keep in mind that the 1.8L and 2.0L trannies have better tranny gearing and bigger brakes in addition to the larger engine. Once you add it all up (motor, brakes, axles, tranny) you will probably wind up with a bill much larger than the trade-in difference to a 2.0L and the FS-ZE upgrades.

Good luck :D

Here take it. There aint SHIT in it though.:the finge

I have taken a look at the FS-ZE and it seems to be a really nice engine. It is truly worth the consideration and planning in terms of blueprints. As for a rotary I had planned on mounting it normaly by pulling the front end and hollowing out the inside of the engine comaprtment. It does seem like a great deal of work, nut after putting one inside of a miata then I really don't think that it will be too terrible.

So does anyone have anythought about doing a turbo to the 1.6L engine that currently resides under the hood of my protege. I know I should trade it in for a 2.0, but I do not want the P5. I just truly would not like another station wagon right now.

Now if anything is possible then anybody out there have the plans to put a 3.6L TwinTurbo Porsche engine under the hood of my car

why settle for a 3.6l porsche engine and just go straight for a jet engine.:dunno:

Yeah. Your right I should install a reactor and a pair of 747 Engines on the side for that extra boost. You know anyway I look at it I am going to be spending a lot of time under the hood of that bad boy. If anyone has an FS-ZE engine they need to get rid of let me know

hey if ur doing that much work, i would recomend all wheel drive
