Pcv

ANGEL1 --- I lubbed the controls,, had air filter area cleaned out, didn't adjust the throttle screw yet. How would I go about changing the PCV valve??? For starters where exactly is it located? And how would the valve affect my iddling speed. What does your protege idle at??

Had simmilar symtoms on my protege 5
the reason was EGR valve (which gets screwd up when u use cheap gas like 87 etc.)
took it to the mechanic, he cleaned it and it helped for like 100km, then everything went back to rough idling.
So i got the valve replaced, now it seems to be ok
good luck
hope u fix the problem

The mech cleaned mine too, and checked the engine, when I got the car the idle wasthe same, but a bit smother. Could it be that mine is just a stock 1.6L? I idle at 300 in drive and 500 in Park.

87 octane does not screw anything up. It burns more completely and develops more power (with our compression ratio) than higher octanes. Cheap no-name generic brands gunk things up. Amoco, Exxon, Sunoco, etc. all have more detergent than cheap gas.

Would fuel cleaners help?

AND

Would adjusting the RPM manually be worth it?? Wondering is it possible to adjust the RPM manually on the car.
