1st gear and reverse

I have noticed while driving hard and coming to a fast stop then trying to put it in first the gears feel like they are grinding. Is this a synchro problem or is this considered normal. The other thing that has been bothering me is that it is getting really annoying to shift into reverse, sometimes it takes a lot of playing around with.

It is while stopping I am try to put it in first, say at a stop sign. So yeah I am still moving but under 10mph most likely less.

As for reverse, I typically shift into first gear, then reverse...it helps the syncros to line up.
I have to do this in my '00 as well. And I agree, why are you trying to shift into first while moving? You shouldn't be doing that. I would imagine if you do this enough, you'll probably fuck up the synchros or something if you're forcing it into first while moving.

Easiest way into reverse is to press the lever lightly into place while letting out the clutch and giving the tiniest bit of gas.

I don't think I've ever gotten the car in first coming to a stop...never wanted to.

I have been told a number of times and understand that the easiest time to put a car into first is while coming to a stop (very slow speed, like as the car is stopping). I'm not trying to force it into gear it just sometimes feels like the gears are now grinding. Anyway I pretty much found the answer to my question. Thanks anyway.

double clutching may help-like truckers do.
press clutch-neutral-let clutch go-blip throttle-press clutch-shift to first. I find it's sometimes difficult to shift into 1st even at complete stop.
Gotta try Redline

gear grinding

mine does it some times, usually it does it when i put it in reverse if its reved to high, and in 1st if i dont push it up quick enough. i dont think its a defect, i jus think its the way the Transmissions and clutch is. !??!?!

Dont do that...its a waste, and blipping the throttle isnt going to line up the syncros any eaiser since they just arent built for downshifts to first while moving.

Just try it...I havent' broken tranny in my life. My autocross times are FASTER when I shift in first in very slow super tight hairpins-it just bogs in 2 nd.
I do not know what the hell is happening inside the transmission, it just pops into 1st gear without effort or grinding.

I race at Corvette Council of Canada events-they don't care about classes as per SCCA rules. I used to be in F2 with Escort GT, now I am in F1 with stock Protege5(well, it was stock last summer). It's very informal.
Benefit is that they have about 10 events/year-May to October and it's only $20 canadian/day with tons of course time.
Theres' Ontario Championship as well, which sticks to all SCCC rules, but at the moment I am not planning to join-it will severely limit my modyfying cravings and put me in class where I will not be even remotely competitive.

AS for double clutching on the track-no, I did not mean that-it's only for stoplights and when it's tough to shift. I heel and toe at autocross to get it in 1st. I hope that cleared it up.

i've read all the previous posts about double clutching and stuff and double clutching is really good (i feel) for when you are slowing down on a incline and you need to go from 3rd to 2nd or even lower as it seems to be more smoother....

ever since learning double clutch I sometimes would dbl clutch into first while I'm almost stopped at the stop sign..... most of the time its really really smooth but during say the first 5 mins of my morning drive sometimes it grinds in when I do that..... is it because the temp isn't right or gears haven't received much lubrication?
