18" wheel scrubbing when loaded!
 

I have 18" rims on my car, and when its just me and a passanger in the car, the ride is fine... alittle bouncy, but ok. Now if I have 2 passengers in the back as well, and i turn a corner alittle too tight, or go over a moderate sized dip, my wheels scrub on the far outside of the wheel well... I am just trying to find ways to eliminate this! Maybe if anyone has had any experience with wheel well shaving! And maybe lower my car!

You can use a die grinder or a normal grinder to grind some of the wheel well... and go very slow so you dont take to much off. or yo could go to yourfav body shop and have them roll your fenders....

Yes that is correct...however if you are scrubbing, lowering your car will only make it worse!....what size tires you have on the 18"'s??

18's are too big for our car's. If you have 18's then i suggest you get a tired that has the middle number size 30, or 25, super low low profile tires, however, with really skinny tires, that offers little protection to te rim. I would go with nothing bigger than 17's, they look better too, 18's are too much rim

18's fit fine.:) You need a +48 offset to run 18's with a lowered P5.

yeah we have a member here in bama who is running 19's...I think his name on here is "P5on19s". looks GREAT although he needs bigger brakes to keep it from looking scrawny.

I also run a 18" wheel with a 48 offset with a 215-35-18 tire. My car is also lowered1.5 inch with no rubbing at all!!!!!

yep. cuz those brakes look too damn tiny otherwise!

Hey eggy... i understand about the offset of the wheel... but is there any way to change that if i already have my rims? I will look up on the internet to see what my rims are... and get back to ya... I really need to get this fixed soon!

Chances are you are running with your offset sticking out to much. The only thing I can think of is to sell/trade them and get the correct ones. If they were opposite, you could have used spacers. I can't think of another make of cars where wheel offset is so important to fitting correctly.

I called the wheel company and they said that the best thing to do is to just shave the wheel down to the offset that i want! Is this safe to do... ?

It may weaken the integrity of the hub

at a VERY reputable machine shop or wheel shop probably...but DONT DIY this one

I also have 18" wheels on my '03 MP5. TSW Rib 18' x 7" 45 offset / Falken 215/35/18 tires. The car is not lowered and I have no problem with rubbing even with 5 passengers. If you have a 7" with 45 offset is fine on a 7.5" with you need a 48 offset. I think the best thing and cheapest way to go is to roll your fenders. Any body shop can do it for you. Many of the show cars I have seen have rolled fenders.
