02 P5 shakes a little in neutral

I have an 02 protege5 and I'm having a little problem. When I put my car into neutral it shakes a little more than it used to. (it's manual by the way) When in neutral the rpms are pretty steady at 1/2 to 3/4 of an rpm, but sometimes they jump to about 1 1/2 and the car shakes a little and it goes back down. Why does it do this? Also, even when I turn the fan to 0 and put the a/c off, air still blows a little. I think this is normal, but i just want to double check. I just put it on defrost so I don't get the air.

thanks

Clean your EGR valve and report back to us at that time. This is a pretty notorious problem on our cars and what you're explaining sounds just like it. Here is a How-To on cleaning the EGR valve.

Well our cars blow a little at all times (no pun intended) even when the fan setting is on 0. Also, if you have the knob set to blow on either the window or window/feet setting your A/C compressor will turn on automatically even though the A/C light does not come on. You can't turn it off either, but it can be disabled. Here is how to do that as well.

Let us know if there's anything else, and welcome to the forums. :)
