~~~ OIL Change GONE WRONG
your not going to beleive this, check this out,
Went on the hunt looking for Mobile Oil 10w30, no where around here has it. all sold out.so i pulled into this PENZoil shop that changes oil 10 minutes or less. and it just so happens that there is a 40% off for that day. great.
so i roll in there they get started with the inspections.
Lights, Headlights, all that crap,
they check fluids, everything checks out, even top up the washer fluid.
here is where it gets fucked up, they put in my brand of Mobil1, and i pay with my credit card and drive off.
after about 5 or 8 km i notice something just isnt right about the shifting. the Auto Tranny isnt acting right.
I get home, and decide today is the day to clean my Airfilter for my INJEN, ilook under the car and i notice a Yellow plug around the drain port for my Transmission fluid? WTF? why is it all leaky and stuff, i look over and dont really see anything wrong. Cause i check my oil stick and it looked ok, and then I think to myself, let me just check my TRANNY FLUID Stick
the thing is FRIGGING BONE DRY.
I AM LIKE WTF
i drove 25 clicks on no TRANY FLUID.
question is , how messed up could it be.
I gotta wait till morning so i can call the Credit Card company mastercard for backup.
But i Cant beleive they boned this one up (Penzoil) but then again i blaim my self for being a lazy basterd and not doing it myself. JESUS.
From what ican guess,
they drained my Tranny, plugged it, and OVER TOPPED up my ENGINE Oil.
tonkabui September-24th-2005 11:21 AM
they don't call them grease monkeys for nothing. i guarantee you most monkeys can do a better job than those quick lube places. anyway, if your car's atf is the mercon V stuff, it should be ok for 25 km. you might want to put a magnet down in the oil pan to help collect the metal shards, but the semisynthetic stuff should have held up at least for that long. hope you dumped the oil out and started fresh on both engine oil and atf. good luck chief.
That is seriously f*cked up!
And how stupid can they be for not noticing the diff between tranny fluid and motor oil? I would have some choice words for the manager there.
I am drving the car now and so far i cout one bad slip when driving it hard, I am going to beat the hell out of it for the next few days if not its going back, they have signed my legal document i drummed up with them admiting fault and agreed to give me 6 months warranty on the tranny if it fucks up.
but with it running a bit flaky i think i willl just bring it in and let their insurance cover it.
cause my car might be old, but it was in tip top condition before.
Question is will it be a New Tranny? Mazda quoted me at 5700$ Canadian Dollars labour and part.
Cause i dont think i would want a rebuild :S
I can't believe your driving it. I would take it in to a shop now. The amount of damage could be the differance from it lasting 6mo or 1 yr. What are you going to do if it blows 7mo from now? Get it fixed.
Da P-Funk! September-26th-2005 06:40 AM
^Lawyers would point out that you continued to drive it. HAVE IT TOWED NOW!
kmaalfiisa September-28th-2005 02:52 PM
thats fk'd up to the top...
id do some ass beating if i were you
Da P-Funk! September-29th-2005 07:37 AM
^nope. Violence never made it better a world. Be firm, be reasonable. Document everything. Who you talked to, what they said - get them to sign it if you can.
A the end of the day it is *a* car (don't get me wrong - i cherish my ride:)
Omron September-29th-2005 12:26 PM
Towed to MAzda First,
They didnt touch anything just documented it
what they did to the car, they documented the 7 Litres of oil in the engine, and the drain of Tranny Fluid. (the fact that they even painted the tranny cap where they did the drain really sealed it for them)
Then towed it to the place where the oil change was done, Lube shop
showed them what i found and they put in writing they fucked up , signed.
Mazda advised that i drive the car and make note of faults, next stage is brign it in to them, show them,
but in the end the car isnt shifting right, so i will bring it back and put it thru the lube shops insurance,
my car insurance company is already in the loop.
Only thing i am concerned about is
A) Obviously my Tranny
B) I dont know much about Torque converters but if theyre could be possible damage there
C) what a over filled engine would do
15 km driving under 70km per hour speed,
Omron September-29th-2005 12:34 PM
Advise my insurance company said to me was either press for
A) a Tranny replacement new
B) Cash compensation, question is how much is something like this worth,
for a new tranny and labour is just under 6000 Canadian,
if my tranny turns out to be working ok, would 4500 sounds decent as a cash now option.
way i look at it, is the rate i am going at with my upgrades , i know ia m going to be dropping 5000 k on my car anyway,
NEW Tranny or PIMP my Ride?
kmaalfiisa September-29th-2005 09:32 PM
you should get your tanny fixed... or replaced, i know i hated the feeling when i couldn't drive my car for months on end, because the origonal owner sold me a junk ass motor in a descent car...
in your case its free, get it done as soon as possible!!!!
That's more than ridiculous - that's just plain irresponsible and having no common sense whatsoever. At least you're an owner who is vigilant and pays attention to your vehicle and how it sounds/feels. Imagine all the other people who may have gone in and potentially have had the same thing done to their vehicles (or worse), only they weren't paying attention to their car (unlike us enthusiasts) and ended up really screwing things up in their vehicle. What's happening to the bozos who botched the oil change on your car? Do they still have their jobs? I would seriously hope not, they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car, let alone work on one.
Anyhow, enough of my rant. As enticing as taking the cash and dropping it into upgrades is (vs new tranny), I would seriously advise that you get the tranny. You don't have any idea what this did to the tranny, and it may not show up until several months, or even a year or more, down the road. Get the new tranny put it - you'll be able to sleep much better at night, and have the peace of mind knowing that everything is fine with it, rather than waiting for it to blow.
Keep us posted with what you do, and what the turnout is on this.
I can't find where you say how old exactly your car is, but I might consider doing some shopping at salvage yards for prices on a used transmission, and installation price if you don't want to do it yourself. Some will offer a warranty (usually parts only, not including labor) If you can get a good cash settlement, I'd wait for more signs that it's going to fail. If you can't get $4500 cash upfront, I'd press them to pay for a Mazda installed tranny. The quality of work probably won't be any different than a reputable shop's rebuild, but the solace is in the fact that you got the most expensive possible settlement.
