Whats your Stock Turbo Look Like?

I was thinking the MSP was running a T25. I have a T25 off a 2nd gen DSM and baught a manifold from an MSP.

This turbo needs to be fed from the top. The Mani feeds straight out.
They totaly dont like up. And also are these cracks or just cuts?

I beleive the MSP is a GT25R...and I havent seen the MSP stock manifold up close off the car, but those are to straight and uniform in angle to be cracks, that's pretty obvious...porbably there on purpose to PREVENT cracking, by allowing a little flex under the extreme heat of the turbo

I'mm not sure if they are cracks. I'll try to post some pic of my turbo. I have an air- research turbo that i got from the junk yard off a old Saab. It is in excellent condition. As for the manifold, i'm in the process of custom building some tubular equal length turbo manifold.

That is not a MSP manifold. Looks almost like an old spool or perhaps a hiboost manifold.

This is what the MSP manifold looks like... stock vs Mental Addiction tubular:

I THOUGHT that manifold looked funny

yeah not a mazdaspeed one, those cuts, are to prevent craching, and warping, under high heat, so thats normal, that turbo is the same one i got, nice.

Thank for the replies guys. I am pretty torn up about this. I was really hoping this manifold would have worked. Even if it did have the 90 degree bend downward the flange is still a hair off of my turbo's bolt pattern. I got my turbo from a 95 eclipse GST. I was under the impression that you guys were running that same turbo stock. Thats Why i thought i could use your manifold... Now I am invested and this sucks lol

Is the turbo even the same?

Grrrrrrr....

The flange should work pretty much no matter what, unless it is just a poorly made manifold. All of the T2 series turbos use that flange.

The turbo is almost the same... aside from the 90* bend that the compressor outlet makes, it looks very close externally. You will need to re-clock it though if you are planning to run the stock MSP SMIC.

IIRC the DSM ran a standard T25 though, and the MSP uses a GT25. There are differences in the internals of the turbo, but the flanges and overall size is the same.

Let me try to dig up some pics of my stock turbo for you...

Roddimus Prime February-18th-2005 01:57 AM

the manifold you bought is a HiBoost manifold made for an IHI-VF series turbo. That manifold is cracked....badly.

a regular stock msp manifold work fine for your turbo.

505zoom February-18th-2005 02:11 AM

I'm on a slow connection for the week, so the only pics that I can find right now without digging for hours are the ones from my swap. The smaller turbo is the stock MSP GT25, and the larger one is my current GT28RS.

Hope these help ya man.

You are right Matty, that is the hiboost manny. You are wrong about the cracks though... Juan makes them like that for expansion purposes with the cast material. Even if it was cracked where it is, it wouldn't make a big difference because they are right in between the runners. If the manifold is torqued properly to the motor, then those cracks (or spaces) don't matter.

505zoom February-18th-2005 03:02 AM

Doesn't Juan make an adaptor plate to mate the T2 series turbos to his IHI manifolds? I remember seeing something about that because I thought it was super cool that he was doing that for the guys that want to run garrett with his setup. If that is the case, then you could run your DSM turbo with that manifold, and get a custom exhaust and IC piping/intake setup.

Just throwin out my .02 for the budget style turbo setup.

emailing info@hiboost.com now. Do you guys have a number I could call him at?

Roddimus Prime February-18th-2005 11:02 AM

not really since he lives in Puerto Rico!
