run 87 octane until you install nitrous, turbo or supercharger....no need in wasting money on anything more when your car isn't tuned for it.

Anarchistchiken June-29th-2004 12:49 PM

Yeah just go with regular until you get forced induction or higher compresion pistons or other parts that require it. It's really useless until then.

alright thanks cause i was gonna start runnin but if you guys think its pointless it must be i trust ya!!!

Yeah our cars are set up for 87 octane. They don't have a knock sensor so higher grade fuel may actually decrease performance. I've found that running 89 simply smooths things out a little.

where do u get 89 i dont think ive ever seen that but maybe i have at the pupm but never remebered it

zerocover June-30th-2004 09:59 AM

I run 89 definetly makes things smoother. I cant even tell the car is turned on at times.

Every pump around here caries 89 ( NJ)

gotaphatprotege June-30th-2004 10:44 AM

oh ok then ill started runin that then thanks for the tip

89 is midgrade mostly everywhere...

MadeInJapan July-11th-2004 11:21 AM

Midgrade gas for sure....premium gas and I see no difference....regular gas and I can feel a decrease in performance and mileage....Midgrade evens things out for me, even in the wallet.

I've been running 87 since the day i bought my P5 with no problems or pinging ever.

FYi: "Octane" is just a word for the anti-pinging properties of gasoline. That's all. ;)

true dat Natey.

On my turbo cars I either run homemade 96 octane or 100+ octane depending on how much boost I'm running. The 96 is fairly easy to make and works very well for boosted cars who want to run at the track or up the boost.

well you know whats weird? i ran 2 full takes of 89 and my car seemed to vibrate more and not idle right or what not so i went back to 87 and my car seems to run cleaner like not vibrating any more like before you could tell when your in the car that it was runnin and now that im back on 87 you cant hardly tell it is...its weird anybody know the reason why it could be doing that?

Tendo July-11th-2004 10:15 PM

Homeade 96 octane? 1/2 race fuel + 1/2 regullar fuel?

Weird. Well if the car runs better on 87, it's better for you, the car, and your wallet. I wouldn't complain :p
