vvt in protege ?
will the 1.6 vvt head out of a miata work in our proteges or are the intake ports to high as stated in the faq. if so would a vetc controller work on the solonoid.
|
In short, NO. :(
North American Miatas don't use the same engine as a 99+ Protege, they use the 1.8L BP that came in the 90-98 1.8L DOHC cars, and the 99+ Miata head (S-VT or not) won't fit directly on any Protege due to changes in the port configuration. (Refer to the FAQ for more details.) Also, I'm not familiar with ANY Miata that has a 1.6L with S-VT- the 90-93 U.S.-market cars sure didn't have it, I'm not sure if any Euro or J-spec 1.6L Miatas have S-VT, but they don't use the same engine as a U.S.-market Protege either. :( The head from the J-spec 1.6L ZL-VE has S-VT and this head will physically fit on a U.S.-market ZM-DE block, but figuring out how to control the S-VT is up to you- it's a continually variable system, not a simple on-off switch like the old Honda VTEC system. Sorry. :( |
FOOTNOTE:
S-VT is the Mazda term for variable valve timing. VVT is the Toyota term. Yeah I'm picky. :) |
Has anyone done this yet i mean the s-vt on a 1.6?
I really like the idea behind a head swap. |
you will definately need a standalone that can handle a continuiously variable valve timing system
no one has done this yet |
I completly understand your pickyness but the mazda dealer i talked to said s-vt was ford and vvt was mazda and they said that the 1.6 was the engine with vvt . If i got the j-spec engine or head for that matter i could use the ecu to controll it $$$$$ and even if it was the 1.8 save up for a turbo and use the added fuel from the ecu right?

s-vt is used in the mazda sixes it is exclusivly mazda's term from what i gather. s-vt = sequential valve timing
I always thought that vvt was a generic term but now I think that it only applies to toyota's |
