VTCS questions
 

Hi, I'm new and just read up on the other posts a little about the VTCS.

The questions:
1. Has anyone removed it successfully it yet?
2. If it has been removed has anybody dyno'd the results?
3. If it has been removed has anybody ported the "step" out of the lower intake manifold? Is there just a step "intrusion" or is the entire lower manifold port smaller with just the end widened to create a step? Having a manifold with a larger end just at the connection to the head could be slightly harming power production.
4. Will the vehicle still meet LEV standards or TLEV standards without the VTCS? (I know that with the VTCS it should meet ULEV standards).
5. Has anyone just "knife edged" the ends of the butterfly valves for the VTCS to allow less restriction and less turbulence induced by a smaller intrusion (a large step will create small vortices in the airflow while a more gradual change "knife edge" will reduce the incidence of vortices. It would be beneficial to do this on the leading and back edge). --This could be applied to the VICS butterfly valves as well.

I am guessing that the engine is too new and/or the people with these vehicles are not willing to go through the trouble for small gains (even if they are free gains)? I guess I will just have to do my own investigation in a year or so after my wife's engine is fully broken in.

Actually I got her an LX (2003) since it has everything she needs. If it were for me it would of been an ES (4 wheel disk brakes). Since it is auto I won't be doing too much to it but I do intend to get a little bit of power/efficiency out of it. Maybe when it is another 3-4 years old I will chop a good 200lbs off of it. The mirage is just under 2200lbs with full fluids now (finally ditched the a/c and related components). The P5 seems to have a higher co-efficient of drag and is probably slightly heavier (more glass). I still haven't put the T25 on my mirage...think the wife would notice if I put it on the protege? hehe :evilgrin:
