Wooohoo! I get wheel hop like crazy, these should cut down on that.

Has anyone gotten the price on these from Tony yet?

After looking at some close up pics of the AEM short ram intake on a '01+ Protege, I realized the engine in the 2.0L Pros is moved a bit toward the passenger side of the car. I assume this is to accomodate the larger G15M-R transaxle as opposed to the F25M-R in the 1.8L Pros. This brings up the question, are the motor mounts the same between the '99-'00 1.8L Proteges and the '01+ 2.0L Pros?

i got an email from them they said $145 for the set.

It may be too late to ask this but how many mounts are included in the set? All four, or just two to control engine rotation?

"the urethane engine mounts help the shifting consistency as well as response. but do add to the vibration in the vehicle cabin. these are $145 for the set of 2 mounts."

hopefully ill be getting them in the next couple weeks.

Hi,

I have the engine mounts from Tony installed (guess maybe I was the first one? :-)

There are two mounts - front and rear (no side mounts).


Installation:

The front mount is a piece of cake - easy to get to. The through bolt is _tight_ better have a breaker bar and a six point 17mm socket :-)

The rear - well, I think I was silly on the install and ended up dropping the subframe to get it out (there are two mount bolts on the subframe very close/almost under the firewall.)

On further inspection, I believe you can get to those two bolts from the top (removing the intake) with the right combination of extensions, etc.

Impressions:

MUCH less engine movement - car actually exits from a corner, rather than pausing before going. Shifting is improved in that it is more consistent - less likely to miss shifts, etc (I have the B&M shifter.) On/off throttle doesn't cause rubber banding of the engine.

But, there is much more vibration in the passenger compartment. I have FS-ZE intake cam, so my idle was always a bit rougher, and now it is quite noticeable :-) Anything in the door pockets will rattle. And I get a buzz in the dash between 2.5-3k :-)

I've emailed Tony with this input - he indicated there may be some slightly softer bushings that can be used. I offered to try those.

I've gotten a bit used to the vibrations, but fear that when summer hits here in Sacramento, the AC will cause an almost unbearable idle.

One thing that I'll do this weekend is to loosen the through bolts on the mounts to make sure they are both sitting at rest with no 'stiction' that might be causing more vibration.

There is also a rubber 'washer' that was on the bolt end of the original rear mount - I'll put that on and see if helps the harmonics at all.

AWR is adding parts all the time. They are a good company to go to for parts for the 3rd gen Protege. I hope the the SPEED World Challenge car built by AWR will do well this season. I hope Tri-Point does well too.

It just occurred to me that if you drop the sub-frame, why not get the sub-frame reinforcement and do it all at one time??

I know Kevin said there might be another way but I was just curious as to what both (mounts and reinforcement) would do as far as sending engine vibration into the passenger compartment.

After all, if you want to help stop wheel hop, etc., why not stiffen up the whole front end?

i made my own mounts....i modified the stock ones.....


i took the front one out, and forced thick pieces of tread blocks from a tire into the hollow areas, and then filled any gaps with silicone to keep everything together...


it WORKS!!! i have the same feeling with the car as some describe with the poly mounts....vibration, and no wheel hop, MUCH improved shifting, and the best part was that it only cost me $4 for silicone! (tire was free)
