TWM short throw shifter installed....

I received my TWM SS a few days ago and got around to installing it today.

The install was pretty easy, but having a lift would improve things. IMO, the hardest thing was putting the shoulder bolt through the rod, spacers and the shifter. The spacers slipped from my greezy fingers more than once, but I eventually got everything together. It definitely helps to completely undo the heat shield and move it back, as far as possible. My damn arms and hands were covered in rust proofing!

The difference....? It's like day and night. The shifter is much shorter and the throws are MUCH shorter. It requires just a little more effort to switch gears, but nothing major at all. It really clicks into gear nicely and makes the car much sweeter to drive. I only went for a short cruise, but it was enough to tell that money was definitely well spent. I highly recommend an SS for the P/P5 and the TWM kit is great.

For any Canadians interested, I paid $204.93, with tax + shipping.

Does the kit come with installaltion instructions? I have never done any transmission work before but I do have access to plenty of tools. Where did you buy the SS?

I'm hoping to do a full write-up with pictures on short-throw shifter installation in the next few days.

I have a pacesetter shifter (supposedly shortest on the market). Should be nice to see if I can borrow my friends camera.

Great, I am sure the "how to" will be greatly appreciated. I know I will use it.

Also, what did you pay for your pacesetter? Where did you buy it from, etc?

kargoboy July-27th-2004 11:42 AM

Yeah, Matty, a how-to w/ pics would be great...that's my next project. I don't wanna drive all the way to 'Bama for help!

Zoom X Two:

Yeah, TWM gives you instructions, with pictures to accompany the explanations.

There's a set of instructions on their website, but I can't find the link, otherwise, I'd post it.

Here's their website:

www.twmperformance.com

I ordered the SS kit directly from them.

I'm definately looking forward to that write-up Roddimus, that's another thing that's on my list of things to get.

Great! Thanks for the response. I'll check the website out.

Hey Topher,

do you notice that the TWM is a biatch to take out of reverse? I've only had mine for a few days now, and reverse is the only aspect of it that I'm not 100% happy with. Does it improve as it gets broken in...?

Topher July-30th-2004 07:11 AM

yeah, it's a bitch to take it out of reverse...but i don't mind...i love my twm.
