Trying to install Kartboy bushings
 

Hey guys, i got some kartboy shifter bushings today and i was wondering if you guys could help me. I checked on the kartboy website for instructions, and i followed them fine until the part where you have to get the stock bushing off...I don't see how the HELL i can possibly get it off of the shifter rod. It says to push it out using the little rod that it was mounted on, but that doesn't do JACK. I have a 2003 P5. Thanks guys.

you have the use the strength of a THOUSAND titans to get that bitch off, greese it a little and YANK that thing out with pliers or something.. you need brute force

how exactly do i grease it?

I just installed my Kartboy bushings. I had the same trouble you did in trying to remove the stock bushing. Try as hard as I could, I wasn't able to push out the old bushing by pressing it against the stud per Kartboy's instructions. I took my utility knife and cut the flange off the inside of the rubber bushing and then I was able to push it right out of the rod housing.

The new polyurethane bushings make a noticeable difference. There is no more play in the shift lever and shifting feels much more precise. Hats off to Kartboy for an excellent product.

I did the same thing goldstar did, I cut off the flange on one side and just poped it out.

Load it up with WD-40 and then press with all your might. I got mine out without cutting anything.

Of course, if you're doing this with jack stands or ramps, then that means you're lying on your back under a steady drip of WD-40, so you might want to keep your mouth closed.

I used a pair of needle nose pliers ,Got between the steel ring and the bushing and twisted the bushing out it came

HAHAHA! You weakling! I only needed the strength of FIVE HUNDRED titans! I guess my titans were on steroids that day!

P.S. My g/f love the EL door sills! Phew!!

I just pryed a screwdriver btwn the bushing and the metal housing and then pushed that puppy out. It was a little tough but took me 2 mins. No WD-40 or anything...may have been easier then.

It took nothing at all for me to get it out...

Either im extreamly strong... or my car only had like 4000 miles on it.

I sugest lots of WD-40.

I greased up the metal pipe inside the bushing and the pushed it out of the bushing. Once that was gone, removing the bushing itself becomes ALOT easier.

To remove the pipe(little metal sleeve inside bushing) I used socket that was bigger than the internal diameter and smaller than the external diameter of the pipe.

Oh, I keep calling that piece a pipe, cause thats what mazda calls it when you order one.:D

I just pushed mine out with my thumb, no grease or WD-40 or anything else. It must have been a lot softer than later models (this was on a '99).

Yep, my 2003 with 400 miles, came off just like the Kartboy instructions. Less then 10 minutes from driving on the ramps to test driving the car. This is best thing you can do to improve the feel of the shifter. Mazda should have done this from the start. L8R.

i had no problems either. came out suprisingly easy especially using the directions. No lubricants used.
