Transmision fluid

I just changed my tranny fluid in my 01 pro 1.6 (Auto) With this valvoline tranny fluid from Walmart. It says for Mazda cars on bottle along with other makes. It is Merc III or Dex II /III. Anyways anybody know if this is the right fluid or not. Blue bottle. It says for most imports and includes mazda on the label. :)

i'd check your owners manual just to be safe. also, if you check on your dipstick for the atf, it should say on the cap. at least it does on the 2.0L. as for my 2002, it's MV printed on the cap, meaning i need mercon V.

Mine said dex II or III. So I am assuming this is OK as its Merc instead of Dex.

What is the difference between Merc and Dex and can they be mixed as the botle says equiv to dex.

do not mix differing brands of tranny fluids. If it clumps or turns to goo you'll dry up your tranny.

Automatic tranny servies with new filters, flush and fluids are only $29.....maybe in the future it would be quicker/easier/less confusing to just have a quick lube take care of it for you.

$29 :) Where? $100 is cheapest here in good ol Canada. That just a drain and fill. Please advise

The Fluid I am using says DexIII/Mercon. Made by valvoline with shudder protection. (whatever that is!) Is this fluid Dex or Merc ??? I am confused!

The oil you bought is fine. The FSM recommendation is: ATF M-V or equivalent (e.g. Dexron III).

Don't worry about the difference between the two types. Mercon is a Ford specification fluid and Dexron is a GM spec oil. Either one will be okay for your car. Mixing the two types should not be a problem since the FSM specifies them as being equivalent.

Thanks goldstar I just confirmed this with Valvoline who responded that this is the exact fluid they recommend for my car. (Thank God) Anyways, so far seems to shift gears easier. Almost scary! Also when you change from certain gears ex. Drive to reverse and get that clunk (Well its alot lighter) Oh well, I guess I was due for a change. Thanks to all and I'll let ya'll know if any problems occur or not.
