Are you guys sure about the 1st gen transaxles? I know for certain that the '95-'00 1.8L BP and FP engine and '99+ 1.6L engine Proteges use the F25M-R transaxle, and the '01+ 2.0L Proteges use the G15M-R transaxle. The '93+ Probe/MX-6/626 use the G25M-R transaxle, which I think has a larger bellhousing than the G15M-R. Are you guys positive that the '90-'94 1.8L BP engine Proteges use the G25M-R transaxle? Is it the same as the Probe/MX-6/626 transaxle, gear ratios and all? What transaxle does the '90-'98 1.5L Protege use?

Well, while not easy to find and i never was able to verify completely, but on MX-3.com, they mention both trannies in thier online service manual.

I beleive the K08(1.8L V6) and KLD(2.5L V6) both used the G25M-R tranny. The 4cyl MX-3 engine, i beleive used the F25M-R.

Ok, here, quoted from Vaughn's site:

"Both the K08 & KL engine use the same G25M-R manual transmission but with different final drive ratios. Early MX-6/-PGT and 626 came with the G25M-R manual transmission with a final drive ratio of 4.11:1 and the MX-3 and newer P-GT use a 4:388:1 final drive ratio."

and yes all 1.8L G1 pros used the G25M-R tranny.

not sure about the 1.5L pros....

Thanks for the info. I've been trying to figure out the Mazda transaxle situation for a while. The '01+ 2.0L Proteges use the G15M-R transaxle. The '95-'00 1.8L Proteges use the F25M-R transaxle. Now the '90-'94 1.8L Proteges use the G5M-R transaxle. The "93+ 2.0L Probe/MX-6/626 use the G25M-R transaxle. There are two different Quaife differentials available, one for any F type transaxle and one for any G type transaxle. Damn, this is getting more complicated instead of less complicated... So what I'm trying to figure out is which flywheels, clutches, and transaxles will work in which cars. Gears ratios would be a bonus.

That's exactly what I'd like to know! The G25M-R is supposed to have a larger bellhousing than the G15M-R. I'm not sure about the G5M-R though. The 1st gen can handle the V6 swap, so I assume it isn't smaller than the G25M-R. Maybe gear ratios? I really want to know if the flywheels and clutches are interchangable between the '93+ Probe/MX-6/626 and 3rd gen Proteges. I ordered an aluminum flywheel and ClutchMasters stage 1 clutch for the '93+ Probe/MX-6/626 from http://www.rr-racing.com/ for $475. It was too good of a deal to pass up. Now I just need to know if it'll fit...

Braden, that was $505 shipped, for the Fidanza billet aluminum 9lbs flywheel AND ClutchMasters stage 1 clutch w/ pressure plate, disc, release bearing, pilot bearing, and centering tool. :D

Ahh...cool... Yeah the clutchmasters = Clutchnet.... I am running the Clutchnet Solid Hub 6 puk and heavy duty pressure plate.... I can get them for less than $180... And the fidanza usually runs $400.. So thats a good deal, but that clutch won't hold up to too much abuse...... well not turbo anyway =)

I should find out tonite if my new clutch will hold up to 20psi down the strip.....

What fidanza are they selling you for your escort/protege? I use the miata ones.

The flywheel is made for the '93+ Probe/MX-6/626 2.0L cars. I know they use the G25M-R transaxle, but I'm hoping that the flywheel and clutch will work with my FP & F25M-R engine and transaxle.

While browsing through the specs on the MP3, I noticed it came with the F5M-R transaxle. The other '01+ 2.0L protégés came with the G15M-R transaxle, and the '95-'00 1.8L Protégés came with the F25M-R transaxle. The first gen Proteges used both a G25M-R and G5M-R transaxle at some point. I think the F and G refer to the transaxle gearbox itself, while the 5, 15, or 25 have some reference to the bell housing size, and maybe the clutch as well. Can anyone shed some light on the Mazda transaxle confusion? Don't we have a couple of Mazda master technicians on this board?

Not F25M-R, the website says F5M-R. It could be a mistake, but if so, it's the first one I've seen on their site that bad. Eric I hate to tell you but the G25M-R flywheel/clutch combo wil not work with our F25M-R transaxle. I wanted to do the same thing but the F tranny uses a 200MM clutch and the G uses a 225MM clutch....sorry but it won't fit I talked long and hard with Tri-=point to see if it would......go to shaneracing though they have a indigo/clutch combo for out f trannys though.

What about the G15M-R tranaxle used by the '01+ 2.0 Proteges? Or the F5M-R used by the MP3 if Mazda's website is correct?

All the G series uses the 225mm and all the F series uses the 200mm i believe. This is from info I got from Mark at Tri-point.

So the flywheel should work, but to use the larger 225MM clutch I'd need a G series transaxle with the larger input shaft right? Now does anyone know exactly which transaxles come with the larger input shaft and a bellhousing that fits the FP/FS engines?
