total hp gain with intake and exhaust?

hello all,

i recently joined the boards and am completely new to this modding thing, so bear with me. i want to get an intake and exhaust system, probably an Injen/Mazdaspeed Cat Back system but was wondering if the ~$700 is worth the horsepower gain. is there anyone who knows the dyno results for this combo? i'm trying to convince myself that the hp gain/dollar is worth it. oh, and how loud is this setup? i prefer Injen over AEM because i have read that AEM's are louder, so the quieter the better.

this is why i want it to be a quiet setup... i beat a civic today and it felt really good :D. i hate civics. and this was one tricked out civic. he had the dual exhausts, gills, super wing, body kit, the works. i pulled up alongside him at a stoplight and he looked over, rolled down his window and asked if i "wanted to go." i nodded and he started revving. but for some odd reason, i was able to beat him with a stock sportshift P5. it was weird. is this normal, or is my P5 just that much better than any civic? go rice rocket go! oh yeah, to the point... i don't want some racer to pull up alongside me everytime i'm out driving wanting to race because i "sound" like i am a racer, plus the cops will leave me alone. i would just like to have a little more power to my P5, especially since it's sportshift.

I am not familar with your parts. But if it's good CAI and cat back with actual R&D, it should have around 10-13 hp gain

I doubt you'll see that much of a gain (10-13HP). You will probably notice a shift in the tourque curve. The torque curve could be peakier or flatter, depends on the setup that you choose.

yeah, maybe not for your setup.

This is based on a Subaru 2.5L NA car with Cat back and CAI:

Hope this would give you a pretty good idea

IB, those Scooby WRX's are nice. I prefer the older, squarer, headlights..but still. Is that yours in your sig pic?

Thanks kcbhiw! I actually did have the older body style at first, but it was 4EAT. I wanted to switch to MT and couldn't find a good deal with an used 2000 or 2001, so ended up with 2002. And yes, that's my car in the pic. Rally on!! :D

awsome shot ...looks like something straight out of a commercial :). I'd love to to do rally (not in the pro of course)..it looks like too much fun. However, theres just too much money to be spent; parts tend to wear and break a whole lot easier.

first, sorry for jacking the thread.... :p

kcbhiw, thanks again, it was actually done by a professional photographer. He took shoots of everyone and was selling them. This was from a local SCCA Rallyx event. We have another one comine up in two weeks!! Check with your local SCCA for Rallyx event. It's not too bad. If you worry about it, just go for one event and ask to sit in someones car. I am full stock with some protection grear that's it ($300 worth). I've seen some Mazda 323 turbo last time and they were pretty darn good!
