Timing question
Has anyone here done a combination of retarding/advancing their cams and saw any positive inceases in power/fuel ecomomy? I was considering retarding the intake cam about 1 or 2 degrees and advancing the exhaust cam about 3-5. Has anyone bothered with this before? Also, my endine is the 1.8.

I am not an expert, but I am 99% sure you cannot advance/retard the timing of the stock cams. You can advance the timing a little with the MP3 ECU.

there are two types of timing. Ignition timing (advanced by the mp3 ecu) and cam timing controlled by cam gears. Adjustable cam gears are about $400+ last I checked and the gain would be SO minimal it wouldn't justify the price (for me).
A better idea would be to purchase both I&E j-spec cams and use those with stock gears. |
SRMotorsports.com sells both adjustable cam gears and mazdaspeed cams.
