timing belt change, what else can be done in the same time?
I am about to change the timing belt in my 00'ES since it's already 87K. I called a mechanic and he told me he can do the changing for $120 plus parts, and I can either get parts from him or simply take parts to his garage.
Many suggested replacing driving belts and water pump because they take almost the same labor as timing belt. Any suggestions on what else can be done? And do I miss anything or there's any unnecessary things in the part list blow? Parts list: timing belt, drive belt, crankshaft seal, valve cover gasket, water pump, timing tensioner(not sure whether it's necessary) Thanks! |
LOL that sounds like the laundry list of stuff that we're going to do to my miata!!
dontcha just love maintenance jobs? |
From what I've read in the past, timing belt is the hardest part of a cam swap. I'm considering a cam swap when doing my timing belt.

You could do the water pump. I got 170K out of mine before it started making noise (bearings, so I was told), but it cost me as much as the timing belt to do...

the water pump is driven by the timing belt. Change it while your in there or pay the labor twice. Last time I did one on a Honda(sorry guys) it was only 11$ for the water pump. Cheap insurance.
