Throttle response

So im on the highway the other day and I try to pull into the other lane so I floor it.
1....2....3 seconds pass and nothing happens. Then suddenly the RPM's jump to 5k.

Is there a way to get a better/quicker responce.
my old jetta used to do things like this but it was 14 years old, my pro is a 2k.

How fast were you going at the time? And do you drive stick or auto?

If you drive stick, you were probably on 5th gear. Just downshift to 4th, cut to the other lane, and then upshift back to 5th. If you're driving automatic w/ the new sport mode, do the same (shift down the 4th from D), cut to the other lane, and then shift back to D. For regular automatic, turn O/D (overdrive) off, cut to the other lane, then O/D on.

I was drivin auto so its the O/D. but it was nothing I mean dam. the thing is I wasn't moving very fast at the time only like 40.

you have to take it easy on the gas with the auto

I have the auto 1.6L, and you have to press on it hard, but not too hard. If you slam on the gas, it probably downshifted to 2nd gear, and that is why the rpm was so high.

I would step on the gas, but not floor it, and it will respond, just give it a sec or too.
