Throttle body
Does anybody know of a company making a large diameter throttle body for the 2.0l protege motor.
I feel it's all good that they are starting to make intakes for these motors but I would think the next logical step would be a throttle body (No just polishing and porting the original). Mike http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mazda_protege5 |
Check with RC engineering, they are supposed to be the best in the business at this. Send them your fuel injectors for flow matching while your at it. http://www.rcengineering.com

P & P
Yes I do agree with you that p & p will be more cost eff., and that the intake will need to be worked also. I am going to be doing the upgrade to the engine one section at a time, I started at the intake, nex logical step would be the throttle body and intake manafold. Don't you agree? Matching the system would make more sense that buying this and then that.

Throttle body
In all honesty I don't know a good machine shop in my local area that would do a very good job with it. I seen butchers around here and I'm a little picky about work done to my car. My mechanic won't touch it so, I need a good machine shop. If anyone knows a good one around that might be a better solution.

a larger TB may not be necessary
Eric Burmeister (owner of the ralley MP3) flowed his and found that it didn't need to be inlarged. It was the TB off of an fs-ze but, you shouldn't need to inlarge yours either. I was thinking about doing the same thing until I read Eric's findings. So, I'm putting that money towards other things.

Saw Eric's reply
I did the posting on Protegetech also. Kinda getting the same answers from Eric and Pseudo RealityX.
I think I'll have to bite the bullet on this one and talked to my brother-in-law. He owns a 56 vette and a 63 vette (Both white/white/white convertables) and see what he has to say about machine shops in the area. Thanks for the input. Mike http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mazda_protege5 |
p&p gains??
What kind of gains could be expected from p&p of the throttle body? has anyone done this on a 1.6l? if so was there a measurable difference?
thanks, |
Just curious to see if anybody knows exactly how long the inlet runners are on the ZM 1.6L?? (Thats the bunch of bananas joining the plenum chamber to the cylinder head, for those who dont know) ;)
also... does it have the same (or similar) inlet manifold bolt pattern on the head as the B6 1.6L? Just curious to see if a quad-throttle body system as fitted to a few B6 MX-5's (Miatas) will physically bolt onto the ZM cylinder head without too much fucking around... cheers. MR 20V Tresdos3, dont waste both of our time with pissweak mods.... go hard or go home, bro. ;) |
when i have the ten thou id probably need then maybe, we will go and see the boys at BD4's for a turbo setup..until then its milk HP's for the least amount of pesos!!:D
|
if thats all you want for the time being, then let me attack your inlet tract...
get some 4-2-1 thin-walled extractors made up & make do with it all until you can afford the turbo.... no sense flogging a dead horse is there??? :D |
to be honest , when it boils down to it , you have to rember that this is your car, you have to drive this car to work , school ,, that hot date Friday night ,,..... and you don't want to be stuck with a (it doesn't work ) car, cause of some nitwit that over p&p'd your car ,,I would say the best thing to do is to try out Gude at the site ( I think the link is ) www.gude.com (not sure though) ... talk to a guy named Bill ( If I rember ) he can do anything with cars ,,, if you send him ur throttle body or you can get a used mule ,, I am pretty sure he can port it and do it up for you ... He knows his stuff and is always in the mags..............
I would recomend to check that out ,.. Always study each mod before doing it Bruce |
