Supercharger? for a 3rd gen?!?!
 

So I am reading one of the import mags today and it has a pic of the wings west pro and in the caption underneath it claims that it is now supercharged. Is this true? As far as I knew there weren't any available yet for us pros. Anyone know anything?

I was talking to Tim at Area51 last night about he supercharger on the WingsWest Pro . He said it was still in development . From the conversation , he said it would be a while before we see the kit as they still have to do the final tuning of the car . He did say the power should be in the 200 Hp range . He also said the price would be around the 4-5000 US $(for us canucks 6.5-8000$ Can) range for the complete kit . I did say to tim that the price projection was rather high ,his reply was that it was a plug and play kit . Install and go .
The supercharger runs 6-8 psi boost ,. I don't have to many details . Area 51 plans to have a press release once the kit is done . Don't expect it anytime soon thought as the test mule is the Wings west car and it is on the car show circuit for the summer .

All the liabilities of a turbo, combined with the liabilities of a supercharger. Centrifugals don't work on smaller motors nearly as well as they do larger ones. They are laggy since they depend on engine RPM to produce boost, and they produce a very short useable power band on smaller engines. If anyone supercharges the Protege, it needs to be a roots type supercharger ala Jackson Racing. Maybe I'll start putting mine together later this summer. After the last dyno run I'm thinking engine management and I only have a budget for one or the other.

I agree with everyone here. I mean, even though not everyone LIKES turbo as an option, there seem to be some great kits coming out (BEGI is the only one I've been reading about) that produce the same ammount of HP, and are around $3k for a 'plug and play' kit. Granted, turbo kits are more complex, but they can also yeild much higher gains, and more easily.

I'm not getting down on SCs, but for smaller engines turbos are usually the way to go. Now with a Camaro for instance, I recall reading adding an SC to one of those (forget which brand) often produced and EXTRA 145 whp. That's incredible right there. SCs like big displacement more than our little lawn mowers. It would be interesting to see the results with a roots type blower though.
