I tried putting the vice grips on real tight (it took 2 people to close them) and they still got rounded off. So, I took a 9mm socket, and pounded it on with a hammer. Voila! Got all 4 bolts off no problem!

hahaha see my kindergarder teacher was wrong.....the square socket can fit a cirlce hole!! :D

any one ever trythe gator grip wrench before? it's supposed to be extremely usefull in a situation like this but i'm gonna find out this weekend when i install my springs( a couple of seized bolts)

Is that the one with all the little "pegs" inside it that fit any bolt?

Damed good solution just pound the hell out of it.

What I would have done is just let the thing heat up alot. Maybe even torch it a bit. Just enogh to get it real hot then use some vice grips.
It would be easier to get them off when the aluminum is hot. Aluminum expands more when heated so it would take less force to get them out. just a little physics lesson.

gator grip is prolly the single coolest and at the same time useless invention i've seen. It works great for bolts that arent on there tight, but the tensile strength of the thing is only like 50ft-lbs. It just seems to break soo easily i doubt it would loosen any bolts on a car. What do you expect for 15 bux.

Expanding either the screws or the manifold (which is cast iron by the way) would make them harder to get out.

Actually, the process of heating up rusted bolts does work. What it does is burn the oxidation off.

They werent rusted... They're galvanized.

dude trust them heating it makes it a hell of a lot easier to remove tough bolts...i was a mechanic and its common practice to heat ANYTHING (thats not flamable) that doesnt come out easily and trust me it helps...what you can do is take a wrech that is smaller than the bolt head and take a hammer and try to tap (or pound) an indentation inside that circle that is the bolt head and then you have yourself a new bolthead to take it out with that wrench (DO NOT reuse crapped out bolts or screws)...you can either use an air gun to try to help you or if you just dont have the strength in you put a long pole over the wrench and put it on the bolt head and then twist (added torque is helpful and if you need a long metal and hollow pole try your jack...we used to use the poles off the jacks because you can usually take them off the jack then when your done put it back on)...maybe that helps...if not take a air hammer too it hehe...or my personal fav the sawzall
