Strange Oil Filter
I was going for the first oil change on my P5 (about 1700 miles) and I went to a local auto parts store that specializes in import parts. They sold me a filter made by the Nippon Micro Filter Company (made in Japan as if you couldn't guess). When I got home and took off the old filter (after searching for it for about 20 mins) I noticed that the new one was a different size. The body had a larger diameter but the O-ring sealer seemed to be the same size as the OEM (which I couldn't believe was so tiny). I put it on but was so paranoid about it that after 100 miles I went and got a Pure One #14620 (the one for 6clys) and put that on. Does anyone know anything about this filter? Most of the writing on the box is in Japanese but there is a part number that looks like it could be a Mazda #: B6YO-14-300. I want to take it back and complain, but don't want to look like a fool if he actually sould me a decent filter for the car.(maybe the bigger body means more surface area) If it's OK I'll just hang on to it untill my next change. Any info would be helpful.

this has been discussed many times... go down to your local mazda dealership... and buy the oem filter. i believe it was wil who posted about the differences in the aftermarket or 'generic' filters... and it was semi-disturbing seeing the results. get a mazda filter, it's the best, and all you need.
