Stock axle-back with header sound?
 

I have the exhaust system listed in my signature (OBX header, catless midpipe, single resonator, and Vibrant axle-back) and although it isn't as loud as some 4cyl exhaust systems out there, I am getting tired of the noise on my long highway drive to work. I am thinking about leaving it all the same except for reinstalling the factory axle-back exhaust. I am sure I will lose some power, but considering how little power is gained on the FS-DE with a full exaust system, I don't think it will be that much (probably about 2whp max I figure). My main worry is the sound. Do you think the stock axle-back will quiet it any more, or will it just be a waste of my time to reinstall it?

IT will defietly quiet it down.
It will still be louder then stock but should sound fine.

I've already posted in your other thread on the other forum but I'll shared my finding here also.

I have a bosal cat back. Both axel back where interchangeable so one day I went to our local drag strip and did 5 run with each axel back. On average the stock axel back was .3 to .5 second slower with the stock one. My trap speed where between 1-2 mph slower also. I knew the slow muffler was restricting but I never though it was that much.

Im gonna have to agree with that. Even though its only a 3 hp peak power gain it seems restrictive everywhere else.

Ive noticed that with the stocker in the winter I have no gigantic smoke cloud behind me like I do with the msp axel back. This thing is so unrestrictive the car pumps out smoke when fully heated up.

The stock exhaust will definately quiet things down. After I sold my exhaust, I was actually lovin' the sound of the intake/header. It was trippy to suddenly hear all the sound come from the FRONT of the car. :D
I sold the header now too, so I can say the with the header(wagner shorty), it sounds a lot like my P5 does with the Injen intake, but louder.

Matt, the Racing Beat axle-back is a lot quieter than the Vibrant, as is the Thunder "Street Muffler" axle-back I've been selling.
I just sold the only Street Muffler I had in stock and didn't order any more because they apparently are too quiet for most folks.
But I did order myslef an N1-style muffler from Thunder cuz it's pretty quiet with the silencer in. If you wanna wait until it comes in for me, I'll sell you my RB axle-back for hella cheap.

I'll tell you guyus that down low I didn't notice any power loss, but up high maybe. I want a little sound, just not obnoxious. I am 38 years old and I am noticing some hearing loss due to age, years of loud cars and loud music. I need my daily driver to be acceptable.

I was looking at the Mazda sport exhaust and that muffler is tiny. I looks like it would be LOUD. Any input on this?

It's loud, but not droney. The sound it makes is a nice, deep growl, but it is pretty loud.

Well, not entirely true. I have tried to figure this out for two and a half years but some of the Sport Exhausts were made by Racing Beat and are pretty quiet.

Well, I am going to break out the Mig and try out a resonator twice the size as what I have now, and re-install the Vibrant. Mostly for the sound. The stock axle-back didn't hurt power much, but sounds silly under heavy load and WOT. :yelrotflm

Theres nothing to figure out the mazdaspeed sport exhaust is the preformance part, with mazdaspeed logo on side.

The exhaust from a mazdaspeed is not, its just a factroy piece, made by racing beat that says racing beat.

The actually mazdaspeed exhaust is very loud. I've gotten a few loud muffler tickets (of course I show up to court with pictures of the mazda logo and they let me off). If you take it easy its very deep and rumbly but one you get on the gas you will be heard.
