stick shift vibration question?

I have a 2002 MP5, And my stick shift vibrates pretty much all the time. Why would this be happening, does any one know?

Thanks,
Chris

Does anything else vibrate? Steering wheel, dash, etc?

No, just the shifter vibrates.

Mine vibrates a little more than the steering wheel, for example. It's more directly connected to the drivetrain, though.

Maybe one or more of your motor mounts are shot. How many miles on the car? Does it have a lot of driveline slop?

Check the front motor mount--it's easy to see if it has failed, and it often goes first.

I'll have check the motor mounts, that's a start.

Thanks
