Startup noise w/AWR mounts
I have installed my AWR front/rear engine mounts with the 70 Durometer inserts. I expected the increased vibration at idle based upon what I have read here, but I also have a sort of shudder when the engine first fires. First time I started it I was so surprised I shut the engine off and checked to make sure I hadn't missed something. This morning I loosened the front mount nuts and let it seek its own position, then retightened and that seemed to help. I am just wondering if this is normal for these mounts (couldn't find anything on this subject in the archives), or if I need to look around for a problem. Thanks.

My P5 did much the same with just the 88 durometer front mount. I've now installed Kartboy exhaust hangars and that solved the banging around on startup. AWR side mounts are next.

Yep...welcome to the motor mount club!

How bad is the vibration. As most of yall know I am helping my girl fix up her protege. Do yall think these would be to much for her to deal with.

I have the side mounts, just have to set aside the time to install. I would say for a car which is a daily driver for someone who is not so performance oriented, the extra vibration of the urethane mounts would be an annoyance (particularly if you spend a lot of time in traffic). I have the 70 Durometer inserts (currently softest AWR offers), and it is almost too much for me around town. Freeway driving is fine. Having said that, I did just install them last week and from what I have read it is possible they will settle down some. I do appreciate the lack of driveline windup at low speeds that I was getting with the stock rubber mounts, and the car does seem to hookup better. Like anything there are tradeoffs. Just have to ask yourself what you are willing to put up with.

...what's up with all the guys fixing up their girlfriend's cars?

C'mon now, don't you know we're doing it for brownie points and to minimize whining?! :bt: Seriously, I just want mine to have a car that's enjoyable to drive and with some added safety. The bulk of my efforts go into my own car.

brownie points are worthless... lol... usually with a gf you can get it when ever you want... they should be called " pre- get out of shit" points.

LOL you guys are funny...but thankfully there are guys that will do this ;) I pick it out, HE installs it hahahahaah
For me the vibration is bad when sitting at a red light, but driving around is fine. |
