SRD Vs Kartboy
 

Anyone have ideas? I'm going to go with the B&M SS as soon as I get some cash, then I'll buy the bushings, but I don't know which ones to go with.

get both kartboy SS and bushings! only 100 bux!

Get the Kartboy SS with bushings! Great price, great product!!! The guys at Kartboy are very very helpful... just in case if you run into any questions! Happy Holidays Kartboy!... and all you out there modifying your Proteges!!!

Personally....I got the B&M shifter...but I did get the Kartboy bushings....they are worth every dime.....they will make a difference in ANY short shifter you put in your car.

Actually what I was asking about was the Bushings. SRD has the bronzeoil ones and Kartboy has theirs. I'll be getting the B&M SS, but I don't know which bushings I should use, both are pretty much the same price right? Anyone use the SRD ones with a B&M?

OK theres a few things that need to be learned here :)
teh Bronzoil bushings are the bushings that go on the shifter itself. the stock one are a urethane and personally i think they are just fine. they are about 0.01 thick at the most. almost no deflection.
the shifter bushings that we manufacture are located in a different place on the transmission itself. the stock ones are a very soft rubber and will make for a mushy shifter feel.

Tom - Question for you:

I ordered the Kartboy SS Kit, complete with bushing, but during installation, I ran into a snag. During the install of the bushing, the stud coming off the transmission is stripped, and whenever I loosen the nut, the whole stud spins. My question is, if I loosen it and the stud comes out of the tranny, will I run into any problems getting the stud back in??

I put in your SS and it is awesome, very mechanical and precise, and the shift knob is perfectly anatomical as well. Great product and awesome service!!! Thanks for the T-Shirt as well.

It took about an hour for the installation, it is very simple. Only thing is, if you have a 2nd or 3rd generation Mazda, you will need some snap ring pliars. I had to go to the hardware store to buy some.

it took us about 35 min to do the kartboy one. you can use 2 screw drivers and save yourself 20some dollars on a pair of snap ring pliars. its not that hard to get the ring out. good luck.

Dave, I doubt very seriously that your stud is stripped....the nut on the stud is pretty tight...and in some cases I believe that some type of thread locker (lock tight) was used....

anyway....your stud is THREADED into your tranny...thus when you turn the nut and the stud turns its just unscrewing from the hole....

WHICH btw you will need to do anyway...as even if you remove the nut....there isn't enough room for the linkage to come off of the stud, as it will hit the exhaust pipe....

so you NEED to unscrew the stud from the tranny anyway. just ensure its screwed all the way back in BEFORE you torque the nut back on after the bushing replacement.

IF you believe you will never have a use for the snap ring pliers again....go for it.....but if you think you might.....its worth it NOT to have to fight with the snap ring.....

I got a set of three different sizes of them at the local parts store for a mear $8. Sure they are not the best in the world....but since its not a tool that I would expect to use on a regular basis....it will certainly hold up quite well.

Thanks for the response, I figured that was possibly the issue, just didn't wanna screw anything up and risk voiding me warranty.

I will go ahead and install it tonite!
