Specs on FS-DE
Hi folks.
I own a 2.0 Ford Probe (FS-02), compression on one of my cyl's is shot, so i am starting to look to buy a motor to build. I see 3 motors that are good canidates, (FS-02, FS-DE or FE3) Regardless of the motor, i will be building a complete Megasquirt EFI with all bells and whistles for total replacement of the ecu. The only thing i really know about the FS-DE, is that it seems to be a spitting image of the 02. The only major difference i know is the ignition (No disty is a big plus, but other motors can be built for distyless ignition) I was wondering if you all could feed me with all the info you know on the DE Bore, Stroke, Stock cam profiles, Compression ratio, how well they take to boost completely stock, how well they take boost built, what trannys can be used with em... Anything at all. I'd love to see some turbocharged DE's, but i cant find em anywhere in this site. I'd like to see FS mean something other than 'f.....g slow' :bt: Oh, if it makes you all feel any better, and if it makes me more welcome on this forum... My probe has a throttle body and IAC off of a Protoge5's DE. :wee: |
Stock they wont take too much boost. Built they can take a good amount, the its achilles heel is the rods. The G15M-R is the tranny you would want to use, the other option that would work is the F series used on the 1.8's, but its much weaker. You ever consiter building up a FP-DE its the 1.8l

Perfect!
Thank you very much. How much is too much for stock? Im guessing with a 9:1 ratio no more than 6-8 psi max with proper fueling. Stroke must be slightly shorter than the 02 with a 6500 redline. I dont think the DE is gona be the path i'll take. Fs02 seems like its gona be cheaper to make a low to mid range torque beast, esp since i allready got a tranny i can build for it. Thank you much for the reply. You guys rock. --Serric of Probetalk |
There are alot of guys that have no problems running 12 psi, stock everything with just the turbo slapped on. Thats without proper tunning. Weak is a subjective term I guess.
The thing about the Fs-De is that its very easy to build up NA boost isnt a nessecity as it would be with other motors. You should definetly consiter building the FP-DE its has a much nicer torqe cure with a meater midrange, it also has a significantly lower stroke so you can rev it more. Its also a stronger motor internal wise. Theres at least one guy running 300whp on it. Did I mention that its the same motor in almost every way as the 2.0 so it would swap right in. |
