maybe they didn't realize that whp was different from bhp?

Precisely why I put a question mark in for mine. If I can't prove it with a dyno slip, there is no sense putting a number in. However, I did put an estimated "at the crank" number in under my list of engine mods, noting what I think they all add up to, but I concede that this is a very rough (but I think fair) estimate.

Well, I can tell you that you don't have 150hp. The FS-DE was overrated, and probably had around 120hp, since it puts down about 100-105 at the wheels.

<~~~ has 2 vinyl's...I should pushing right about 197whp....after deducting for the fact that neither vinyl is yellow or red.

I won't argue with you - I remember the Mazda Miata thing, where Mazda offered up all those $500 vouchers after it was discovered that they overrated the 1.8L mill. It happened again recently with the RX-8, if I recall. Seems like overstating hp numbers is a little bit of a bad habit over at Mazda, which is made worse by the fact that no Mazda is especially powerful when compared with its primary competitors. The point is, the car is fun to drive as-is, and it's only going to get better. What's in a number, anyway? After all, we all bought these cars because they handle well and are fun to drive, right?

Ever look through the classifieds at all the crummy project cars with 350 Chevy motors in them? EVERYONE who has a 350 claims that it makes 300 horsepower, yet no one seems able to prove it. It doesn't matter if it's a rusty old 1985 Chevy pickup. The guy selling it will claim that damned thing makes 300hp....

So, go to the dyno and find out what WHP you have...simple, easy, effective!

for the 'guesstimators', figure 15-18% drivetrain loss on a manual trans. car and 20% on an auto car.

Like I said, it doesn't matter all that much to me. What matters is that the car feels reasonably quick, communicates with its driver, has pleasurable shifting/ steering/ control quality, and takes off-ramps with enthusiasm. More important is how those things tend to improve with each new addition. It's hard to put a number on how fun a car is to drive.

I have no problems in any department. I drive, take pics, take video, go to the dyno, etc.

mazda enthusiasts should start a new rating system, the FF rating :D (fun factor)... find some way of using power/weight ratios, and lateral G's to estimate your FF, well i think its a good idea at least :D...

everybody over rates their cars, we always hear how much horse power a car has, but they don't say it is at the flywheel. The 200 hp RSX type-s has 187 at the wheels. the 175 hp sentra SER v-spec has 156. pretty decieving.
