Should I get the AEM Short Ram?
 

Ive been thinking about it for a while and i want to get the short-ram for my P5. Ive searched but havent really found the info i wanted. Does anyone have one? or have any feed back on how it will be diffrent than the stock set up? I really like the look of the short-rams and the price "$130" so let me know your thoughts. By the way does anyone have pics of one on their P5? Thank You. :)

Sure why not, it will improve throttle response some and increase Hp alittle and lord knows we need it for our cars.

It also loots cool and sounds sweet.

I just ordered an AEM short ram yesterday. I decided to go with the AEM for a couple of reasons, Number 1 every AEM intake I've seen the quality and fit and finish has been outstanding plus a lifetime warrnty and made in the USA.
Number 2 nothing against the Injen (also outstanding quality) but I live near Toronto and a CAI worries me too much, water & snow etc. I've also yet to see proof postive that a CAI produces more power than a short ram on our cars.

I think you get what you pay for and I've lost count of how many people have complained about the Ractive rubbing against something or other (usually the master cylinder) I would be pissed if I bought a part and it didn't fit 100%

As for building your own intake, Sport Compact Car says that the modern airflow meter measures a small sample of intake air to calibrate the ECU how to set the fuel mixture, if the factory enviroment is not carefully duplicated and you just pull the sensor out of it's carefully calibrated housing and just drop it in to an intake pipe you can screw up this relationship. If you mess with the pipe diameter, it could result in the sensor reading the airflow wrong, and cause the engine to run lean.

Be careful! I have the AEM short ram intake and it was rubbing on the master cylinder. I had to change the angles near the throttle body to avoid it. If you insert the pipe flush and straight onto the throttle body, it will probably rub when you depress the brake and the engine rotates towards the driver. Just be ready to make an adjustment. It's easy to tell if there is rubbing because you will feel a vibration on the brake pedal.

Thanks for the tip Shawn, I see you're from Regina, I'm originally from Yorkton. This is the first I've heard about the AEM rubbing. Has anyone else experienced this with an AEM short ram?

Hey Shawn do you notice a good difference with your intake. I have a K&N filter right now but on take off i still have a little "lag" in acceleration. Im just curious since you have one how it performs? and how does it sound? Thanx

I like the sound. My car is an automatic so it never did perform well but I did notice that it revved up to the high RPMs faster. So there is probably a slight increase in acceleration.
The sound is pretty cool though. Especially when you turn off the engine and the intake hisses :)

I've had an AEM short ram installed on Protege5 and have been very happy with it. I find that I have a "bit more" top end performance, plus I love the sounds it makes....... I paid quite a bit more than the $130.00 I now see on eBay. My words of wisdom say: GO FOR IT! or spend about $200.00 (eBay) and install a "Cold Air System".......again you can't go wrong!

Did you guys find that your short-ram was easy to install? Im not a gear head, but from what ive heard in the past that it is pretty simple and only takes about 15-20min...what did you all experience?

love my A E M short ram intake. it took me about an hour to install, but i am a bit anal. love the quality, sound and it does rev a bit quicker. i did have to get a larger hose clamp for one of the tubes though... it was just a bit too small

where did u get your AEM for that price? the cheapest one i found was $180.

spend the extra money and get the injen
