Short shifters for autoX. Good Idea?

This is a question for the autocrossers. The topic on short shifters got me thinking. Will a short shifter be benifitial in a autoX? Will it make me more likely to screw up my tranny?

Naa. I dont think it will help my times but Im more concerned about it helping or hurting me to miss shifts. I know that going from 1st to 2nd in proteges takes patients no matter how long the throws of the shifter are.

I guess Im worried about the short shifter taking away the light feel that I have with the stick now. I think my Kartboy shifter bushing is waiting for me to pick it up. I might just stick to that and not install a short shifter.

Do you think that short shifters are really just for the feel and dont really give you an advantage? I am kind of starting to think that myself. I had an 84 Jetta GLI and the linkages were kind of screwed. The throws were almost twice as long as my protege (no exageration) and I could shift it a little faster than in my pro because the tranny would let me.

I'd consider it, i drove my friends Si with a short shifter a few days ago, then i drove my car, jesus christ the throws are alot longer than i originally thought
