Isn't it just smart movie editing?
Shot 1: Going forward then do 180
cut
Shot 2: Going reverse then do 180 to go forward again.

I didn't see the movie, so I couldn't be wrong.

Don't think so Dynamho... I've seen it done a few times successfully, and think it may just take some time to learn, and have the proper equipment...

The way people do those stunts is they hit the brake and clutch hard both at once locking up the wheels and shifting at that point. It not good for the car. Its kind of like truck commercials. They always show them racing through a field at 90mph when if fact if you did that your suspension would be ruined in a matter of days. Also in a manual transmission all forward moving gears are always connected. "they are always meshed" the reverse gear is the only one that meshes like the other guys said. But the reason it grinds isnt because of the way its cut. Its grinds because both gears are moving in opposite directions.

Yup, and I'm sure they don't really care about the tranny's in the stunt cars...there are usually several cars, and, after all shooting a scene usually only takes days, perhaps a few weeks. They're not trying to make their car last 300,000 miles, I'm sure ;)

Correctomundo!!! Its like the Austin Vantage and Jag cars in the 007 movie were completely stripped of all original drive train and it was replaced with a custom 4WD tranny and front axle from an explorer. It also had a 350ish horsepower ford crate engine "carburated of course" with nascar style valve covers. It also had a custom aftermarket rally style hydraulic hand brake that would lock up both rear wheels. If you looked closely you would see how frankenstiened these cars really were. But anyways they threw these cars around and they really didnt care what happened to them. The had 5 of each and 1 completely stock one for the good closeups.
