shifter extension adhesive?

i'm about to trade in one of my pro's and i need to "glue" back on that extension and put the stock knob back on.

anyone know what kind of glue they used there? obviously some kind of rubber-based adhesive. can anyone think of a viable alternative if i can't find something like this at home depot? any advise would be appreciated here, guys.

Try epoxy.

i was planning on that if i couldn't find something more closely matching the rubbery adhesive that was originally used.

any other thoughts anyone?

whatever you use...you need to make sure it has one hell of a bond...so that the NEW owner doesn't end up driving down the road and find him/her self holding the extension in their hand and nothing else.....

use the epoxy.....

the reason for the RUBBER stuff was a vibration dampener....

You can try JB weld. That stuff is supposed to be really stong. It' s
basically epoxy but made to bond metal to metal.

i looked at the JB Weld, but it's set time was like 5-6 hours and 24 hours before i could drive the car.... that may be fine for a weekend, but not for a trade-in that's supposed to happen later this week.

i got some "metal" epoxy. should do the trick.

why do you need to install it? It shouldn't matter. Did they tell you to put it back? If so i'm surpriesed they noticed that.

Wicked&Inked June-10th-2002 08:49 PM

Use JB Weld its the best bond.

pkc June-10th-2002 09:48 PM

azrakain....

'cause it has a MOMO shift knob i intend to take with me.... can't leave it bare and the base of the shifter [you know, where the extension came off of] doesn't have any threads.

i have all the stuff... shouldn't be a big deal to toss it back on.

i'm also debating whether i should put the AEM intake on my live-in's pro. better her use it than throw it away by trading it in. not like they give you "extra" for aftermarket shit. more to the contrary; lots of places consider it a detractor.

Wicked...

the JB just takes too long to set up. can't wait 24 hours to drive the car.

Sil_Pro5 June-13th-2002 12:24 AM

dude, JB will not work even after 24 hours-ive tried it before. its isnt really great for something that has to take lateral forces-like a shifter. instead, go to a muffler shop and have them do a few spot welds to it.

since you cant or dont have time to remove the whole shifter, just cover everything up and pray theyll do it. and lastly, just say "fuck it!" about the knob. they WONT care dude!!! promise. besides, you really dont want to put that knob on an RSX-itll look gay IMHO.

instead, just opt for the Type-s or the 00'-01' integra type-r knob. or buy a knock-off (i used to have one and i loved it) from one of those adverts in SCC for like $25. youll love the way it looks and feels.
