The shifter

Hi everyone !

I'm new in your forum and I noticed that you guys have a lot of Knoledge and good ideas.

I own a MP5 2003, and I know almost nothing about mecanic.

But I was wondering if it was possible to change the shifter for a short-throw. Is it complicated ? How do I do it ? How much would it cost ? Or where could I get the information ?

Thanks for the replies...

Short throw shifters are made by Kartboy, B&M, and TWM Performance. They are fairly easy to install and you can find instructions on the TWM Performance website. It's also a good idea to install the Kartboy shifter bushings regardless of the brand you install.

You can also use the Mazda MP3 or MSD shift levers. They are both about one inch shorter above the fulcrum point than the P5's and although they don't shorten the "throw", they will enable you to move the shift lever through a smaller arc.

For more comprehensive info, do a search and welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for the tip, I'll go and take a peak at these different compagny.

I'd like to know if some of you guys have short-throw levers and if some are better than others.

Thanks !

I just installed a short shifter in my 2000 Protege LX. Very easy install, had no trouble at all. I also installed one in my MX-3 again very easy install. Big difference over the factory shifter which has longer shifts than some trucks. Atleast 50% or more shorter shifts. Definetly worth your time and money. Makes the car much more fun to drive.
