rough idle...help

my car idles horribly. anybody know what i can do to make it better?

Well what kind of car do you have? P5, MP3, 1st-3rd Gen Pro?
If you have a 3rd Gen Pro made from '99-'00 you may need to replace the coil packs. There is a recall on this part. They should send you a notice if your car is one of the affected. I had to replace mine. Rough idle is one of the symptoms of the bad coil packs.

I have an 02 ES. it only has 4000 miles on it.

Why not take it to the dealer and say 'my car idles horribly'? Maybe idle speed is too low... just a guess, as you didn't supply much information.

Exactly.

remember the MAF sensor was a part of the recalls too.

I replaced my coil packs right before the recall but they only cost me 25 bucks so oh well. I have a CEL reading catalyst not effective but I believe that is from my O2 sensors I am replacing them soon so we will find out if its the MAF then hell I guess I will be putting some things off again my warrenty is gone BTW Mazda knows i messed with the motor and my VIN is red flagged in the Mazda USA system

If your car runs good otherwise, but idles bad, it's usually caused by a vacuum leak (running lean). To find it, with the engine running, spray carb cleaner at all the vacuum lines, valve cover vent, CAI, etc. If the idle goes up or smooths out, you've found the vacuum leak. Usually it's something simple. Another way to find out if it's lean is cover the air filter with the engine running (cutting off most of the air), if it runs better, it's too lean or has a vacuum leak.

"my car idles horibbly. Anybody know what I can do to make it better?"

TheMAN,

mtbfreak40 was having some trouble and people were just trying to help him out. After all that is what this page and these forums are about. Noone was assuming what was wrong with his car. Rather they were just throwing out possibilities of the cause of his problem. Since you are such the smarty-pants why don't you tell us what is wrong with his car. Why don't (you ASS)-ume what his problem is. Better yet as a moderator why don't you MODERATE your rude comments.

To all others that posted in this topic thanks and I'm sure that mtbfreak40 appreciates it!

noone is telling him to DO anything, just trying to help the process of elimination.....after all 2500 heads are better than one.....usually.
