Fear

Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that kills from the inside.

Mine has been absolutely wonderful! The Check Engine light is a problem with the super-sensitive 1.6L. It has not been much of a problem with the 1.8L and 2.0L (and usually, if it does happen, it's because the person installed it incorrectly). The power increase is good (you can see my dyno results here), the throttle response greatly improved, the sound amazing... go get one!!

mazdaistheshit July-3rd-2002 04:45 PM

Ok blue ledz did you install yours? im not stupid or anything i installed my diamond clear corners, factory foglights, altezza , and my sub my custom mesh grille. I didnt install my tint , cd player or sidemarkers. Its just dont wanna mess up the engine of all thing :) . And i didnt want any problems but i guess ill give it a try . By the way how far does the filter sit in the hole in the engine thats behind the bumber ? is it all the way down to the splaash guard or it sit right a the hole?

I provided a link to my dyno in my previous post. However, I will just post the image here. I gained 5 hp and 6.2 ft-lbs.

The installation is pretty straight forward. Just follow Injen's instructions and you should be fine. It should be easier than installing your foglights. Click on the following link for Protege5online.com's Tech Help on installing the Injen CAI. Note: the 1.6L will differ slightly from the 1.8L and 2.0L installation.

the altezza lights still use the same oddball bulbs . when i do get ride of my cd player i still have to get a pro to do maybe b/c im getting the cd with the built in monitor 5" so i might need help im hooking ps2 maybe dvd or vhs i dunno yet. another question did you reset your ecu or not? I hea everyone talking about the most about throttle response when you tap the pedal does it rev faster or something? but i know i wont feel the extra 5 hp or even if i get that much b/c i hace the 1.6l and you have a 1.8l . I just cant wait to hear how it sounds so whats the lowest revs you can hear the intake at with the radio on or off.

zeus July-3rd-2002 07:01 PM

If you have sub woofers and listen to tunes the way I do, you may not hear the growl of the intake much at all. Besides it only sounds off noticeably when you’re in the throttle good, and that’s at any rpm. You won’t hear much from it when cruising around though.

I have no complaints with mine, but I would recommend the splash shield instead of the bypass. The splash shield keeps wheel spray off the filter, which is useful in more situations and keeps the filter dry. The bypass is only useful when driving thru more than 1-1/2’ of water, something I think is wisely avoided since the door sills are lower than the filter.

i guess ill go ahead and order mine next friday its like 189.00 dollars why dont the make a short ram for the 1.6l ?thats a question no one can answer. What kind of filter comes with the intake is it a k&n ? Do u think your car with intake and exhaust could beat a stock es model i was just curious b/c i was thinking about it at the moment.

mazdaistheshit July-3rd-2002 08:57 PM

lol thats funny about the maf what the problem with it ? is it only in the 1. 6 that have problems with it i think. but i want a exhaust thats kinda quiet low rumble maybe the bosal cat back with the baffle i guess that will toe it done but does that also tone down performance? I was going to get a k&n air filter before i was thinking about cai but why waste money on that a get little to no gain
