Resonator Removal
Has anyone ever removed their resonator? I kinda want a deeper or nicer sound than stock, but i dont really want to spend a lot on new parts. Any sounds clips would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

i did on my 99 lx it gave it a little deeper sound. then i put on the muffler and it didnt matter. lol
|
most certainly did....when I installed my cat back system it does away with it....
you could always go to a muffler shop that mandrel bends piping and have them replace the piece that goes between your cats and the muffler.....and presto chango...your resonator is gone. |
The thing is, i remember on my GT-S that when i removed the resonator it sounded deep at like idle, but when i revved it or pushed it, it sounded all zingy and "ricey" and i wouldnt want the mp5 to sound like that.

don't bother with it , cause it will just make the exhaust louder all the time , instead of just when you are accelerating shortly , I did it on my protege , and to be honest , would love to put a resontar back on the car, cause sometimes the damn muffler sound at highway speed can be annoying ....
i would not bother with it bruce |
Cool, thanks man! Yeah with my celica when i had my TRD exhaust and no resonator, at highway speed it was literally deafening to the people in the back seat. It would drone like crazy if i backdrove it too. It was fun for me but i dont think my passengers liked it :P

Strange...I took the resonator off of my '83 GTI. It had a mandrel-bent cat-back with a turbo-style muffler. When I took it off, it was deeper, gained a wee bit above 5000 RPM, and the highway drone was GONE. Must be the car (it's a Rabbit).

holy crap, i've never seen someone reply to such an old post :P
Thanks tho :P Yeah i guess every car is different. My celica was so damn obnoxiously loud :P |
