resetting the ecu?
 

i bought the heat shield ractive filter for my ractive intake. the filter has a different design then the original filter.
im going to be installing it this weekend....do i have to reset the ecu if im changing the filter?

There is no need for an ECU reset.
Anyway if you want to do it, first disconnect the negative cable of your battery (be aware that you can not let this cable get contact with positive!) push a few times the brakes pedal and let the negative disconected abouth five minutes, an voila.

NOPE there should be absolutely NO NEED to reset your ecu...

first I heard tha one....why do you need to do that?

Here's what I've always done ( on all cars, including the P5 )

1. Disconnect battery negative
2. Wait 30 minutes
3. With alarm remote at the ready, connect the negative terminal. Disable the screaming alarm, if needed.
4. Start the engine. DO NOT touch the gas pedal, and turn off the A/C
5. Let the car idle for 10 min
6. Shut off the engine and remove the key ( I think of this as "save setttings on exit" LOL ). Very important
7. Now start the car and drive normally.

there is a few capacitors in the system...it will discharge them to make your complete electrical system dead...thats all....just one more thing that some do and others don't. I have never heard of anyones ECU NOT resetting because they didn't step on the brakes.....also I have done it in this way.....pressing the brakes, but have never left the battery disconnected more than about 5 minutes and still all was good when I turned the car back on.

I pump the brakes as well. Its is to drain all the saved current in all the capacitors as stated above... Its quicker than letting them loose the power by time!

:D I figured this had to do with draining the capacitors. Guess we all just use different approaches.
