redline

Eventually I'll get a tachometer or a whole new gauge cluster that has a tach in it, but for now, i have none:( about what speed does each gear redline at? i have an '03, i don't want to push it too far w/out knowing the exact RPM's so i've been shifting based on engine sound, the highest speed i've shifted at is: 2nd gear@25 3rd gear@40 4th gear@80 5th gear@100+ these are aprox. #'s

on my 2.0L first redlines at 28mph, second ends somewhere around55-60, third ends about 80/85 forth ends somewhere between 90-100, . your car has a rev limiter so you won't hurt anything. just go and stay in first till it won't go any faster, then go to second, so on and so forth.

.....good quote here! I have owned my PR5 and have never hit the rev limiter. I have had it up to 7k and maybe a little over. I guess the limit is 7150?????? I am curious what happens. My mother's saab 900 SE turbo just holds the rpm at 6200 (redline) when you leave it in a low gear (it is an auto). Does not buck or cut the fuel off.......

hey i just put the jspec cam in my car i can now go to 7000rpm but before it was 6500. so i dont no how your able to go past 6500, much less 7000 thats a new one on me?

Protege52003 September-7th-2003 07:42 PM

Yeah, I have hit the limiter around 7200. Done it once and believe there is no need to do it again.

6500 is fine with me.

The rev limiter is VERY abrupt. If you actually hit it, you will know. I whacked mine one time in 2nd gear at around 7200. Remember that the factory tachs aren't really all that accurate. It is common for them to be a couple of hundred RPM off from actual.
