Ram Air P5?
 

I was just wondering... I've got an Injen CAI (check sig) and I was thinking, that I could cut some kind of a scoop in the lower splash guard, and force air up into the dead air space at higer speeds. I'm not looking for a big power increase, but in theory it would work wouldn't it? Hell, at least I could say I have a "Ram Air P5!" LOL! :D Anyone think it's worthwhile?

i don't think it will work.. ram air designs generaly need a flat filter w/ scoop (hoodscoop?) like the WRX i don't think a cone would work. how do you force air into a cone?

If you have the Racrive cone, then you can get a type of cover for the cone that is connected to a pipe 4inch or maybe 5inch diameter, and that will work once connected to a nicely desighed air skoop

I believe the real problem is the fact that you also just made a SCOOP for water, dirt, and all the other nasty stuff you want to keep away from your filter that is nicely tucked up into the fender well away from all those things.

yes, you can install several screens made of diferent materials to keep the dirt out. I so far had a black pantyhose over the pipe that comes from the air scoop. I also used the stiky oil from Remote Control Car air filters, that way it would catch stuff much easily. Now what I want to do is install a fine metal screen before the the matereial cuz biger stuff that makes it up the pipe just shoots right through the material.

I doubt it will provide any gains at all since the length on the Inejn intake piping is so long and with so many bends, the ram air effect wil be pretty much cancelled by the time the air reaches the throttle body. I think the AEM or Ractive would be better for this application.

I also seen the ram air device on a Pontiac Grand Prix that yield 5? extra hp, and the distance for the air to travel from the intake opening to the throttle body is short, almost straight and devoid of any bends greater than 30 degrees.

we need something like what the WRX has.. the filter is right under the hood scoop and it has 1 gentle bend to the TB so its like.. 5 in distance.. whereas the injen is about 10m long..

Dude, just an FYI. Thats not the air filter... it's the Intercooler.

they make ram air hoods for our p5s and 3's they are sweeeeeet! carbon fiber ram air hoods.... life is good....
comes with a custom AEM intake kit to use for true ram air with the hood. although its 1500 bucks.... OUCH
