Has anyone bought and installed this? Im thinking about it, but i was wondering is this the same exhaust system as in the Mazdaspeed protege?

If its not can someone give me a link to the mazdaspeed protege exhaust!

I am putting my Racing Beat CAT back in tomorrow. If you do a search you should find a multitude of threads on the Racing Beat exhaust.

I can't comment on which exhaust is in the Mazdaspeed because I simply don't know.

I picked up up my RB SS catback yesterday from Advanced Imports (they're local for me.) $435 is a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I've heard it in person, and it sounds great. This is a quality system. Really not that bad considering I paid over $500 for a Stromung axleback on my WRX. :rolleyes:

I had the MazdaSpeed SS axleback on at first. It sucked. Sounded like most of the Honda fartpipes. Damn shame, too. It was only $165 from my local dealer. It was a beautiful unit, but not for me. I'm not looking to get attention.... it's loud.

The Racing Beat cat-back is not the same exhaust that is in the MP3, nor the Mazdaspeed Protege.

and only get the axleback section. Although, I must admit that wish I could use the axleback only section (it's cheap... $165 from the dealer.) My buddy said he'd sell it to me for the same price as the MazdaSpeed unit I bought earlier (and since sold.)

Even thought it will be too long for the P5, here's the PN for the RB MP3 axleback section from the dealer (or Mazdformance.com) 0000-8M-C08. Mazdastuff.com no longer lists this part.

I know little about the proformance game, i just know what each part is called, i dont know which is best nor do i know what you guys are talking about when you say axle back part :p

RB is likely the best you'll find for Mazda
 

Truely a work of art. :)

Axleback = muffler section with pipe only.

Catback = muffler section, and associated piping all the way to the last catalytic converter.

PS - I'll get pics up ASAP of my RB catback. Installing it today.

I put it on my Pro5 last month. It is great, not too loud, nice sound, excellent quality, took 20 minutes to install (on a lift). What it is missing is the pops and cracks noises on the overrun. But that is my opinion, I like the "pop pop" when you lift off the throttle.

Which one will necessarly sound better?

Is catback bascially full exhaust?

Oh and you can get the MP3 axleback exhaust for under 200 bux. Does that exhaust system sound nice?

Im really looking for nice sound rather than HP gains.

Okay, initial impressions after having the Racing Beat installed today.

It really improves the sound, it's perfect. Gives the car a nice low rumble, not too loud, not too soft. I had read that it was too quiet for some people, but it does seem to be louder than stock. rolling through the parking lot you can really tell the difference, it's nice. You can hear it at WOT but it's not too loud at freeway speeds 70-80mph.

It looks great! The stainless steel and the tip look great, again, not too big, not too small. I'll have to figure out how to keep it clean and keep that nice polish.

Performance I can notice a bump up in power, similar to the bump I got with the Injen, but this one seems to be a little more even across the powerband, there are more gains in the higher end, if you look at the Racing Beat dyno, but it just feels more smooth to me, I haven't really had a chance to totally try it out, my car was loaded up with stuff from a Costco run, hockey stuff, and my old exhaust so I couldn't really push it. By the way, if you need jack stands, I picked some up at Costco today, very nice, $17.99 a pair for heavy duty 6 ton stands, that look super stable. These will come in handy when I paint my calipers :D


I'll put pics up on my page when I get a chance. Just wanted to say thanks to Rishie for hooking it up. I recommend Rishie and the Auto R&D guys for parts for this car, they know their stuff, and are great to deal with.

It's not obnoxiously loud by any means, nowhere near what the MazdaSpeed axleback was. Although I would have prefered it a bit quieter, I can certainly live with this, no problem.

The fit and finish are perfect. It truely is a work of art. We had it up and installed in about 10 minutes (granted, a lift made this a snap.) The fitment is probably the best I've seen, perfect. And as for the looks, as jrodhotrod stated is just where it needs to be. Looks like factory, not aftermarket.

I've got install pics up. I'll snap some more with the car on the ground soon (started snowing here yesterday.)

Also of note. FM's description of the Thermal exhaust sounds nice. Also not too loud, not too quiet. Pics look good too. Cut instead of rolled tip like the RB, but still understated and nice looking. More expensive, but appears to make more power. Don't know for sure what the gains are for the exhaust by itself though. Just some food for thought.

I'm wondering if exhaust for a turbocharged MSPro would be appropriate for a normal-aspirated car. To me it seems the tuning would be different.

Does it matter, following the logic of wide-open is good for all (forced induction or NA)?
