Quiet but fast?

OK, so here's my problem: I have an 03 LX, completely stock. I really like how quiet it is, but I'd like to increase power. How do I do this without making the engine loud? In other cars I've owned my first project has always been a new intake, but none of them have been quiet to begin with.

hey there,

for starters an intake is always the easiest way to add a couple ponies, but like you said, noise is a concern. Start off by adding a high-flow k and n air filter and try to find out if you can use your stock airbox assembly with an aftermarket intake. You may then want to advance to the timing to give you a little added punch.

How do I advance timing? Would it help without installing a new intake, or do I need to do that first?

you can do the mp3 ecu swap for advanced timing.
