protege exhaust
 

Hello...i already got my injen cai and tint, now its time for the cat-back exhaust... the only one's ive seen for my 2002 2.0L stick mp3 is one from magna flow for 444, borla for 490, and skunk2 for 538....

I want the skunk2 but i want it for a cheaper price. Does anyone know of any reliable sites with cheaper prices or alternative companies that make exhaust for my car? Thx. Help is very much appreciated.

You can look into the Bosal, Racing Beat, JIC Magic, Thermal, and SR Motorsports cat-backs as well.

Really, how much of a difference is a cat back exhaust as to just a performance muffler? I mean as far as I know the pipe between the cat and muffler is already stainless. Is there a big enough difference in HP for the extra dough you would be spending? I just have a better muffler than stock and noticed a slight increase in pep, but not a lot. I think I would be better off this way ,and maybe get a high flow cat later on.

If your car is stock, a cat-back compared to a muffler's gains are minimal, it's what happens when you upgrade more and more where it matters. The factory pipe is not stainless, it's plain old steel and I'm sure is already rusting away. It's up to you if it's worth the money, to some it is, other it isn't, your call.

after you get a cat back though, couldnt you have another performance muffler? example, if you had the JIC catback which does come with the muffler if im correct...and then u switch the muffler with a bosal perf muffler, is that possible?

Yeah, but if all you want is the piping you might as well go to a shop and have some custom made. Why pay $400+ for the piping? My local shop told me 304 SS for $10 a foot. Also the muffler would have to be welded on anyway, unless it was a Protege-specific bolt on.

i had a muffler shop made me a bolt on axle back with magnaflow muffler. It cost more than the standard weld on but i want to be able to change back to stock axle-back if i didnt like the sound. Cost me about 250 dollars. Off the shelf axle-backs are too pricey for my taste. I recomment magnaflow if u want a nice straight thru muffler thats not too loud.
