plugs and wires

I know that this question has probably been posted as many times as I could count and people are going to tell me different things, but..If I put new plugs (say bosch platinum+4) and new wires, (magnecore) will it do anything for me?

TheMAN February-2nd-2003 11:00 PM

brand new car?

NO

RHAGEL February-3rd-2003 09:45 PM

yeah, its only got 2200 mi on it. I thought maybe It will give me a little bit better gas mileage or a smoother running engine or something along those lines.

Tom Slick February-3rd-2003 11:18 PM

yeah the overpaid enginneers at the mazda factory probably didn't know what they are doing when they designed those plugs and wires specifically for that engine. you'd be better off with some parts that you and the minimum wage pepboys guy think would boost performance. :bt:

different plugs and wires will not ever boost performance all other factors equal. only the proper plug for the application will give you proper engine tuning. it could have 50 electrodes and it still would give you no performance.

Mach 1 February-4th-2003 03:45 AM

I disagree.

Spend a lot of money on those Bosch Platinum Plus 4's and some new wires. make sure you get some cool colored wires, like blue or red, maybe even yellow.

With new wires and 4 electrode plugs, you should see improved mileage, more horsepower, your engine will rev faster, sound cooler, and youll get laid more often...:)

From what Ive heard I like your response Mach 1, I dont think that Tom DICK knows what he is talking about. He is only a smart ass because he doesnt know shit. He read an arcticle from written by some "Mazda Engineer" and thinks he is smart. Maybe Mazda didnt install better plugs, wires, suspension, etc. because they cost more money. SO TO TOM DICK, JUST BECAUSE MAZDA MADE IT, DOESNT MEAN IT IS THE BEST THING FOR THE CAR.

Yeah, I would have to agree with that.

well I saw it....for if getting new fancy plugs and wires would get you more sex then you couldn't keep them in the stores.....there would be a line at every autoparts store in the country....

:{D

Honestly, I did not see any sarcasm. Just smart ass. But I apoligize if that is all that you meant.

people put platinum plugs in their vehicles because they will
last longer than traditional copper plugs. the downside is that
they don't spark as well as copper plugs.

there are newer iridium plugs which people claim spark better
than copper and last longer than platinum. but they cost like
10x the price of copper. So I'll stick to my high quality copper
thanks. :)

magnecor 8.5mm wires are a great replacement when your
current wires die. But if you don't do anything else to your
engine then they are a waste of money.

educate the masses and hopefully they will learn.
Or go into business and take them for all they got. :D

Meez Agreez. I had Bosch Plats in my old car and changed like every 25k+, and they still looked pretty good (little to no wear/damage), and the engine ran pretty sweet. Don't know about the comparision to coppers, but I think it was overall worth the couple extra bucks. All this crap about Plus-4 and halo electrodes...blah blah blah is about effective as Johnny Suckme on the home shopping network trying to sell you a bag of dogsh-t.

Unless there is something wrong with your existing wires, not much will come of replacing what you've got with some stellar plug/wire. My opinionation. :D

I'm so glad to see all these responses. Finally, it seems people are waking up to the FACT that fancy plugs and wires do NOTHING unless you have more charge to throw thru them. They can't "manufacture" the juice on their own.

Very refreshing to see so much of the truth...
