Phenolic Spacers
 

I have read several good things about them, but my question is, will the spacers from a 2nd Gen. 2.0L fit the 3rd. Gen 2.0L.
I have done several bolt on mods and am not a beginner in the tuning industry, but I am new to the Mazda world. I am a long time Ford owner and I want to make the most out of this motor.
To the point: Will they fit?

The same spacer that fits on the 93 up 626 will fit on the 2001 and up Protege.

The probetalk.com forum has tons of info on these things. I almost put them on a a Probe GT, which had mazda's k series v6. the 2.0L probe has the same engine as 2.0L protege's (different management and ingnition system though) and they will fit protege's. My question is how do they not shit up the fuel delivery? They cause the injectors to "inject" at a different angle and from a different distance

Actually, the spacer is only about 1/4" thick and is flat. It only spaces the intake off the head by that much and doesn't change the angle of the injectors at all. It has the cutout areas just like your factory gasket does so it won't interfere with the injectors in any way.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was pretty sure of the answer, but just wanted to double check. I am not trying to go all out(racing), but want a quick, nice handling car. So, the injen intake, custom cat-back and straight through sec. cat, plugs, wires, spacers should give a little extra kick and help gas mileage. I am going to order this weekend and will try to post results.

Another thing they do is isolate the intake manifold from engine heat soak. Really keeps the engine from feeling so slugish after an hour of driving etc.

how about those of us with the 1999 1.8L engines? do any of them fit our engine?

You are correct. Unlike the rail on the 2.0L's the GT's V6 is mounted on the intake manifold. Moving the intake manifold away from the engine would also move the position of the injectors. I did not realize it was different on our engines.

Yes I believe, The only difference between the two (If you have a 3rd gen) is stroke I think, The spacers would still fit your intake manifold

I've had them on my Probe for quite a while. The manifold stays noticably cooler, and there have been no problems associated with the spacer. Here's the site that sells them...

Whats does this do for power or gas milege? I drive volkswagens with dual carbs and dont know much about the New import cars

Cooler intake manifold means cooler and denser intake charge, which always equals more power (how much depends on the complimenting mods). A better more stoich mixture means better gas mileage. It seems like to me, this is a no lose modification.

Because it's made out of phenolic resin which won't conduct heat. It isolates your manifold from your cylinder head. The cylinder head won't conduct heat into the intake manifold. A cooler intake means better charge density which means better fuel mileage and more power. It won't be a ton, but it will be noticeable. On our engines maybe 1-1.5 HP and 1-2 MPG. Everything helps!
