Performance Chip for $10?
Hello All!!!!:D
I just found this auction on e-bay . The item is supposed to be a performance chip that boosts hp 10-25. I was just wondering if anybody has one or has heard anything good or bad about it. If the link doesn't work the auction # is 2431659122. Thanks in advance for the info!!! |
It's bad. There's no chip for our car. :(

I posted along time ago on the same subject. 10-20hp sounds too good to be true... and it is. According to my dealer it WILL void the warranty. According to some other more knowlegeable members on this board, it's bad for your vehicle.
|
its probably just a resistor that makes the engine run leaner or something
thumbs DOWN |
all it does is tell the air temp sensor that the air in the intake is colder then it really is thus advancing the timing a lil bit
|
Thanks, I thought it sounded too good to be true. I tried using the search feature but didn't find that other thread, that's why I posted this one.

If it does advance the timing wouldn't that be a good thing especially if your running a better gas. You pour in 93 octane and IM sure youd be fine.
|
it would be a good thing but if u already advanced the timing it would ber bad cause knocking and thus engine wear. on most cars this chip(resistor) dosent even work. a better way to do the same modn is to get a coldair intake its a lil more safer and it looks good too

From my old Miata days, everyone used to advance the ignition from 10 degrees BTDC to 14 degrees. This gave the 1.6 engines a little gain, especially in the mid-range. Anyone ever try this on our Proteges?
|
thats the first mod most protege guys do
|
It makes the car run richer. Supposedly. If you've got a first gen, or a 95 model year second gen you can advance the timing, but in 96 OBD2 came out and the computer will just move the timing back to the "correct" setting if you try and fuck with it.
