Pecking noise from the engine???

My 99 Pro 1.6L has developed an annoying peck coming from the engine. I have a five-speed, and the engine runs good even when pecking, it always starts and things. When the car is in nuetral, idling, the poecking noise is heard. As soon as i push the clutch in, it stops. Pecks when it's driving too, but the engine noise drowns it out. Any suggestions on what this might be?

thats crazy, I've got the same thing going on in my '00 Pro LX auto... does the noise come from the valve cover area??

Sometimes a leaking exhaust gasket will sound like a ticking noise. I'm not sure about pecking noise:rolleyes: . Check the area around where the exhaust manifold bolts up to the head and where the cat is attached to the manifold.

Took it to the mechanic yesterday and it turns out the transmission is shot. I need a new one, about a thousand dollars! The car only has 66000 miles on it!

Or you may find out the untold TRUTH...
There's 130 hens under the hood (Not horses)...

Sorry about the tranny, though.

i also have that pecking sound only when the car is idling. it's very soft and it comes from within the engine itself . but guess what? it only came after i installed my new sri intake
i was worried for a while but it's got something to do with the air intakes/filters.
